I need to vent.

I'm bummed out because last night I found out that I didn't get into the animation school that I had applied too.

My dream is to someday follow the steps of the great animators that have inspired and entertained me. I started drawing, and I draw like crazy. I draw a lot from life as well as from my head. I've taken many continueing education courses on drawing to sharpen my skills.

I applied to this school... and was sooooo looking forward to moving to North Vancouver and becoming a student of something that I love.

But I got rejected.

I'm going to try super hard again next year... but I guess maybe my self esteem is hurting because it gets hard to believe that someday I will be able to get a job making cartoons when I don't even have the skill to get into school.

:bawling:

I guess there are some positives though:

-I get to spend another year with my great friends.

-I get another year to save my money.

-I get another year to prepare my skills.

Never see things like this as bad. You never know what may come of it, you might get in next year and circumstances may lead yo to better opportunities.

If you want to do it keep going.

Reminds me of a story i once heard.

When Edison was trying to get the light bulb to work a reporter asked him "you have failed over 400 experiments why do you keep going"

Edison replied "I have not failed 400 times, i have found 400 ways that dont work"

He then went on to say"The first requisite for success is to develop the ability to focus and apply your mental and physical energies to the problem at hand - without growing weary."

After more than 1000 experiments he gave us the light bulb.

Keep going, dont stop, you may have to take other jobs even before you succeed, but dont stop.

Seize the day!

Good Advise from Mart! Don't give up your dream. Things happen for a reason and maybe this will make you a better artist in the future. Keep working hard and and it will all work out in the end.

I agree, keep trying.

Rejection happens to everybody, and the truth is that it has as much to do with their perceptions and prejudices than anything. Not bashing them, it's just one of the unfortunate facts of life that most everything you do will depend on what someone else thinks- from getting into school, to getting a job, or selling your services. Use the year to improve your skills, and to improve the way you present yourself to them. If you can, find out what they look for in a successful candidate and develope those traits/skills, as well as the way you sell them on your having those qualities. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that you didn't get in, Dijita. I know it will be hard for you to look on this as a positive experience, but at least it will give you another year to sharpen your skills - then you can go back and show them what they missed out on this time round!

Good luck with it - don't give up your dream!

Good luck too to you Wolverine, I hope you get in at the U of M next time round.

Well it's a learning experience, though you might not believe me :karate:

You've been there, done it once ... next year you'll have this experience and it would work better, maybe you'll be in, if not, there's always another time. Try to plan your life (job maybe) so you won't suffer (financially) and keep on drawing :) If you are determined to enter the darn school, you'll be there whether they like it or not. And the fact you couln't do OK after entering because you didn't get passing mark now ... that's crap (I've had some problems in college because I work and couldn't make it to school. I had to take my exams in other session, later than my coleagus. Does that make me less student? No. I'm still the smartest in the class and get high marks). So just focus on your "training" and give us the good news next year :karate:

Keep trying Dijita!

If you do something where there is a taugh selection you need to be used to some failure. (I'm doing a job where initial selection is hard and is also hard to stay at high level). But you never actually lose if you don't quit, so work hard for your next opportunity.

Best luck
