Cups are compulsory in most competitions, and for good reason too. An opponent once tried a turning side kick that was low to say the least. Anyone else got some good cup-related stories?

i got a pretty good kick on the box once.

i was ok for about ten seconds before i got the incredible urge to crouch down, curl over and go into the fetal postion.

it doesn't hurt as much but it still hurts.....

hell yea cups are required just like gloves are.

and though its in different threads- yea, in san shou takedowns are where you get your points (at least in american san shou fights.) thats the biggest difference between it and muay thai.

a broken arm throws no punches

In San Shou I've heard there are taekdowns that you could and I've been wondering if this is true?

Yes, (I never practiced San shou but it is practiced in the kung fu school where I go) it looks like kickboxing but it has some throws. The throws that you can do wearing a boxing glove.
