superfighter
I had to do this about 2 months ago, i wasnt best happy about it. We both agreed wed go light on each other, but as soon as we started fighting, it turned in to a right scrap. Both ended up with bloody noses and blood on out dobuks. i ended up losing, but man that was fun. People were shocked how we ended up shaking hands n havin a laff about it after. fightin another club member is surely somethin id do again, i guess when your against someone from your own club you feel like you've got somethin to prove. Dijita
What style were you fighting in? Did you guys get kicked in the face? Because I don't know any tournements that allow for hand strikes to the face. I haven't fought a club fighter myself.

Ironberg
The first point fighting tournament I entered I was bumped up two belt divisions (because of age and height) and told to spar one of my club members. It was basically a gold belt versus a red belt, and he was one of my sparring partners. I was pretty upset because I knew he was much better than me at the time, so I got slaughtered, not just because of my inexperience, but because of my being upset, andthis guy knew all my tricks. Northren Ogre
I had to fight a club member for the gold medal in the San Shou division at the Can Am Championships a few years ago. In most instances when club members meet up it can be pretty tame, but we did'nt come to play tag so we wound up whaling on each other pretty good. Fun was had by all. http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
The Saint
I've had to fight against another member of my club at a wtf tournament. Our club is ITF and we are allowed to use anyhand technics to the face and sides of the head. While sparing we just went by our rules and went hard on each other. It was a harder match than the gold medal match in the end. Fighting a member of your club is always harder, because you train with them and know their tactics. We kicked the snot out of each other and laughed about it at the end of the day. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to go to his class." aefibird
In only my second ever karate competition I ended up sparring against another woman from my club. It was her first competition. When we found out we'd drawn each other we stopped being nervous and just had a good laugh. We'd been used to sparring against one another before so we really went for it - and both had to pull out injured!! We ended up going for a kick at exactly the same time, me off my front leg and her off her back leg. Our ankles me with a lovely cracking sound... I wasn't sure whether sensei wanted to laugh or strangle us both. Edited June 1, 2005 by aefibird "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." rb
for judo i compete against people from the club all the time. By the time you go to competition you've fought each other in practice so many times it's not a big deal to do it one more time. mantis we would just spar at the club.
