What is the mix of grappling and striking in your personal style? (i.e. the art or combination of arts that you practice and use).

Having done Karate and Kickboxing, and found myself well suited to them, I'm taking Ju Jitsu to make myself a more rounded fighter. But, I still consider myself to be a striker - just a striker who happens to grapple too!

Currently: Kickboxing and variants.

Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.

Pure striker at the moment... but in Tai chi I'll do some grappling in the future.

Pure striker, but I know a few takedowns and standing submissions, but I'm not sure if basic Karate grappling counts.

"I'm a striker but I mix in some basic grappling"

I wish it was more 'proper', but you do what you can. I don't think you can train for reality without some clinch work, takedown defense, and even a little ground work. But I am primarily a striker.

I learned striking for years...over the past two years I've incorporated grappling, and tipped the scale in my strategy to "grappler with some srikes." I personally find it easier to dominate someone if I can take them off of their feet and mount them.

Im mostly a striker these days. When I was in HS and college I wrestled. I still do locks, throws and take downs but my primary focus is on strikeing.

It just feels natural to use a strike to set up a sweep into a takedown then finish with a strike. :brow: 10 yrs ago I would probably roll around and grapple a bit more but now Im more interested in combining the two for the most effective way for me to end somthing quick and effectively.

Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

I'm an even mix. I've been striking all my life, but have been training judo and bjj pretty intensely for the past two years, in addition to muay thai. I'm more comfortable with standing grappling - throws, takedowns, etc. but I can hold my own on the ground.

i prefer striking but i practice grappling. locks and pinning techniques even ripping techniques are still grappling right? my art isn't just a striking art.

I am mostly a striker. But since attending the dojang I'm in now (they mix judo with TKD), I've done a fair amount of throwing, takedowns, and grappling in the past year. But yet, I'm still a lot better at striking, I think.

I preffer striking. It comes more naturally for me. I'm tall and slim so at grappling I don't have the same advantage as in striking. Still I learn some techniques so I won't be completelly unprepared. It's good also to learn to stand well so I won't be taken to the ground to easilly. Fortunatelly my feet almost glue to the floor when in such situation :)
