yireses
1) To be a real Chinese Martial Art School. Does the name really matter ? I mean the name half Chinese Half Japanese. Like Shaolin Do, Shaolin Kempo, Shaolin Tsu Kempo, Karate Kung Fu Do, Chuan Fa do. ect 2) To be a real Chinese Martial Art School. Do you have to learn the Chinese Terminology, that means not to use Japaneses Terminology. 3) To be a real Chinese Martial Art Shcool. Do you have to use Chinese Uniform and not the japanese uniform . Because there are chinese Northren schools using Suothren uniforms. Drunken Monkey
if it is chinese, why would it use a japanese name? if it is chinese, why would it use japanese terminology? if it is chinese, why would they wear japanese uniform? the real question is does it matter? if it is good, does the name matter? if it is good, does what you call things matter? if it is good, does what you wear matter? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Drunken Monkey
but i have to admit. i have a thing against schools with mixed names.... i just don't get it. if you're going to give your new creation a name, at least make that little extra effort and make sure the name is 'correct'. the ones that really annoys me is 'kung fu karate' and 'shaolin do'... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Names like that give me the Mcdojo impression. "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of... Cocoa Puffs." Homeboytg
I would agree that the techiniques and the style are the most important in defining a school as Chinese or not. I am part of the Chinese Kara-Ho Kempo system started by Professor Chow and passed down through Grandmaster Sam Kuoha. Though Grandmaster is not originally from China, the system style originated in CHina. There is only one rule in street fighting..."Be the last man standing." wing chun kuen man
I agree with Ironberg and I would say that mixed names would make me run in the other direction. There may be exceptions where the school is actually good and authentic but how likely is that if they can´t even create an authentic name for their school. You might even learn good kung fu techniques that turn out to be good karate techniques instead....lol Generally I would recommend one to look for a kung fu school that has a chinese name and that the classes use chinese terminology and uniform as opposed to japanese terminology. Yes I know that what they teach and how they teach it is the real issue, however I would smell a Mcdojo if I saw a kung fu school with mixed names and japanese as opposed to chinese terminology. My opinion. Wing Chun Kuen Man Real traditional martial arts training is difficult to find.....most dojos in the west are Mcdojos....some are better and some are worst....but they are what they are....do you train in one?
