Sorry to hear of your injury. I tore my ACL many years ago,and never had the surgery. I have thought about it,but hate to go through the recovery. (I did have my meniscus repaired(2000)

Anyway, good luck with your surgery and take care! :)

L ACL Repair, December 1995: six weeks of PT prior to resuming light practice (AMA, of course! ;) ).

L ACL re-repair July 1995. Took a ful three months off that time. It still is doing well.

R ACL repair August 2000: Eight weeks recovery.

R MCL repair June 2003: Six weeks rtecovery. Doing allright.

New injury to patellar tendon this past November. Putting off surgery until August (wil be at the Archivio Vaticani and Bilbiteca Sancto Marco de Venezia doing research this May-July). Still training, but babying the right leg. :(

NB: The injury to the R Patellar Tendon had nothing to do with Karate. It came about when carrying a ~250 lb. patient down a flight of stairs and my partner (who was at the head) lost his grip on the pram. We didn't toss the patient, but we came close!

Man equaninimus be careful.

Recently, about three months now, I've been having a pain on the left side of my left knee. I play basketball a lot and I think i mightve done something when landing once, or come to think of it, it could've been during sparring when throwing left side kicks to stop a charging 200+ lb. opponent. Either way, now when i move from side to side it feels like buckling. Also when I stretch i cant fully stretch my left leg because the right side (the inside of my thigh) is very tight (i think it's the hamstring). I've been debating getting it checked but i think im finally going to make myself go. Any suggestions to loosen up my hamstring? Or any way to make sure that I really did do something to my knee before going to the doctor? Hopefully it's just soreness or over-exertion and i wont have to join equaninimus or any of you other guys in the Torn MCL/ACL club.

Update on the knee!!! Saw the surgeon today and he thinks that I might actually be better off not having a reconstruction because the joint is tighter than most "normal" ACL's and fixing it might make it looser. Go figure!! My problem is that I do "extreme sports", as he puts it, and I am having instability at maximum loading forces which while not a problem for most really cramps my style!! He injected it today ( I really hate that!) and I am going to do 2 weeks of PT before he scopes it to figure out why it is cracking(?torn cartilidge that didn't show up on the MRI). While this is great news for me I won't be able to make up the lost training time to test in May and go to Korea. Bummer! Oh well...the International scene will have to wait. I'll keep ya posted! Thanks!
