ZR440 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I can tell you're not on the Atkins diet. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
monkeygirl Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 lol ZR... I don't know that we "celebrate" Pancake day... I didn't even know there was an official day for it. Every now and then though, organizations in this area will host pancake dinners/breakfasts. Do you have Bisquick in Purley? That stuff is great for making pancakes. Basically it's just a batter mix... you add a few ingredients and *poof* pancakes! ...except when I make them. They're more like gooey ashcakes. But my brother and mom make FANTASTIC Bisquick pancakes. One time, my friend made pancakes using 1/2 CUP (.2 pints) of salt instead of 1/2 TABLESPOON (.01 pints). I don't know what he was thinking. His dog wouldn't even eat them. 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
Drunken Monkey Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 not really an official holiday. it's officially called shrove tuesday. some kinda thing, somthing to do with lent. the main thing is that they used to fill the pancakes (made with old flour and eggs etc etc) with all of their old food. so the day is supposed to be the day in which you finish all of your old food. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
GrrrArg Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Shrove tuesday - Pancake day Ash wednesday - don't know Its something to do with the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus spent in the dessert with out food etc: Shoulda went to more of my RE lessons..
Rich_2k3 Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 I think so, thats why u've got to give somthing up for lent for 40 days or somthing. "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee

monkeygirl Posted February 28, 2004 Posted February 28, 2004 Fat Tuesday or Faschnacht (sp?) day in Germany is the day before Ash Wednesday, when Lent begins. Ash Wednesday marks 40 days before Easter, methinks. Not exactly sure how that works on a leap year. 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
