Elbow...

Heh, I know I'm usually the one posting advice here...but I was wondering how many of you have similar problems:

My elbow, a while ago, became a bit succeptible to hyperextension...never bad, but if I threw a punch to hard, it would twinge, and I'd cry like a baby(well, not quite like a baby, but you get the idea). About six or seven months ago (possibly more), I got locked in a funky elbow lock...similar to a kimura, I believe, only it torqued my elbow. I wasn't in it for long, but my elbow problems have increased exponentially since then. I can't straighten my arm out all the way...can't breakfall...can't spar because I simply can't straighten my arm out enough to punch without SEVERE pain.

And before anyone suggests the doctor, no money, no insurance...which really sucks.

Ok, discuss. :D

Ah, the bliss of free healthcare....

Anyway, my brother has a similar problem. He severly broke his arm in the elbow region and could not fully extend it, and after 2 years he still cant. That however was a very serious brake and he neglects the exercises that the physio prescribed. Basically the physio told him to keep it exercised and strentched and he was shown a series of simple exercies that he must do daily (he never does them) and after a period of time mobility will return.

My advice is to see a physiotherapist or if not possibly search the net or books to find out the exercies required to overcome ur injury, I think thats the best option. In the mean time keep it exercised. The book "Dynamic Strength" by Harry Wong (check amazon) does have an elbox exercise which helps prevent injury to the elbow (I know its too late) but it cud help.

The only thing I can suggest is you find an elbow brace and start wearing it. You honestly have to rest the elbow for a few months. And that means don't do ANYTHING other than typical daily work with it. No exercise, dojo,...nothing! Check out this article:

I think that's what you have. Get some insurance!!!!
