Drunken Monkey
oh god, speed traps, here in uk at least are the biggest con in the world. they serve no purpose and are right up their with censorship as one of the most insulting things to us as intelligent people. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Rich_2k3
Did u know there are more surveillance cameras in the UK alone (that includes speed cameras) than the hole of Europe and America put together, no joke. Soon its gonna be like the Truman show over here LoL. p.s For all our American friends and rest of world, u may notice that us Brits are quite passionate about them , well thats the reason. Drunken Monkey
it's also cos they don't work. more traffic speed cameras do not decrease traffic accidents. there's a town somewhere that only has ONE speed camera AND the lowest traffic accident record. they say cameras are to be placed in accident hotspots. it is just plain senseless. if it were a plane accident scenario, they would spend money to find out what went wrong and then try to PREVENT it from happening again. so why the felch are motorists being punished flat out for accidents? has it occured to them that traffic accident hotspots could because of the layout of the road? the condition of the road? putting the blame on speed is utter rubbish. waht makes it worse is taht the current speed limits are based on a car made in the 1970s (or there abouts). yes it's a fair argument that cars have gotten faster since then but then so has the quality of brakes. it is easier to go fast and to go faster but it is also much, much easier to slow down, and to slow down safely. if an accident does happen, cars are also much safer for passengers (IF you are wearing a seatbelt and have seat positioned properly). if there is an accident hotspot, it cannot be because everyone is going too fast. to cap it all, the use of speed cameras is an insult to our intelligence. it is saying that we do not to slow down outside a school when there are kids about nor do we know to be careful when it is raining heavily. tell me what harm there is in me going 100 mph on a motorway (freeway) at 3am when there are no other cars about? our motorways are probably the safest of our roads so why are there more cameras being place on them than normal A and B roads? whose fault is it if a kid runs out into the road? whose fault is it if a cyclist cycles across lanes without any indication? well, according to current uk road laws, it is AUTOMATICALLY the driver's fault. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Variance
Hm I hate those cops too.. i almost never get busted though... out of 200,000+ miles Ive only gotten two tickets.. and one was before I got my equipment and one was because i had my radar off. If you wanna avoid cops... I recommend the following equipment: Radar Detector (Valentine One or Escort) Police Scanner (Uniden Beartrackers) CB Radio (Truckers always advise other truckers about "smokey") Laser Jammer (Completely Legal in all 50 states. The Escort or BEL one work very well. none of the others do at all) I own all of the above.. and I can vouch they work VERY well. also... Use your eyes... watch for "white strips" in the road that indicate VASCAR they indicate when cops time you before you iht the second white strip. Im not a serious speeder either. I do a safe 80 - 90 mph with no traffic on the highway. What doesn't work: Getting pissed at the cop if you do get busted. Radar jammers(except the VRCD which is illegal and you'd be breaking federal law having one) If you drive 120+ mph everywhere. Even if you do get alerted to a cop. is your car gonna be able to slow down in time? Variance
Thats one way but most of the speed limits are really quite stupid(on public highways) and its been proven by many studies that 70 - 80 is more than quite safe on them. The fact is that traffic tickets are a major source of revenue for the city/county/state. Consider this: 100 tickets a day.... maybe 7,000 a week... each of those tickets being around 200 - 300 bucks. = millions a year. and they probably give out way more than 100 a day. I do not look at speed-limits as a legitimate law on highways. Just a source of revenue for the state. You drive as fast as its SAFE to drive. If its safe to drive 80. Ill drive 80. if traffic dictates i go 60. then Ill go 60. Now City Roads and town roads are a different matter. thats where cops should be concentrated on. that or how about stopping some real crime? aefibird
I HATE SPEED CAMERAS! They're just another way of taxing motorists, especially British motorists, who have to put up with the most speed traps in the whole of Europe. Even if you do obey speed restrictions (some of which are ridiculous) then there's always a jobsworth cop ready to jump out and do you for breaking another traffic law. Near where I live there's 2 roads, both with the same speed limit of 30 miles per hour. One road runs right past a school and so the speed limit is apropriate (actually, I think speed limits outside schools should be 20mph - children don't have the physical and mental development to be truly road-safe) but the other road is straight and out in the countryside, away from housing or anything else. yet, on this perfectly straight road with NO record of accidents drivers are forced by the law to go slowly when a faster speed limit would still be safe. Sometimes, living in Britain really sucks!! But then I think of the free NHS and of my local rugby team and it isn't so bad after all... "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..."
