BruceLee Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 Hello, I just joined this forum because it was the only one I found basically about martial arts. I took Tae Kwon Do for a few years, but then I quit because my parents moved away and other stuff.. so yep, now I don't really do anything but try to exercise on my own. I recently got a benchpress nad am trying to lose some weight and gain some muscle bcause I am 17 yrs old,220 pounds and 5'8''. Well, I wanna learn so many different martial arts, especially jiu jitsu, and kendo. I am going to buy a shinai and a bouken from someone I know, and I was planning on joining wrestling at school. Well, if anyone could tell me of a site, or maybe a book that I could learn of some martial arts easily on my own, that would be great. The meaning of life... is to live.
BruceLee Posted January 23, 2004 Author Posted January 23, 2004 Oh yeah, one more thing, my name isn't Bruce, I just really like Bruce Lee and I'm interested in how he trained so well and became such a crazy athlete. BRUCE LEE'S COOL! YEAH! The meaning of life... is to live.
BruceLee Posted January 23, 2004 Author Posted January 23, 2004 Well, my name isn't Bruce, I just really like Bruce Lee because I'm so interested in how he managed to train so much and become such a crazy athlete. He may have had a lot of problems, but we all do. Yes, and I would like to be as crazy as he was, but I know that's not gonna happen. YEAH! GO BRUCE LEE! The meaning of life... is to live.
italian_guy Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 I'm rather skeptical about learning a MA with books. You better find yourself a school follow the lessons and then you can practice at home and also get extra advices from books. To learn a MA you need a teacher to see if your movement are correct and classmates to apply the technique. This is why you cannot learn by yourself. Best luck and welcome to KF.
joerfe Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 Yep. Join a school. Being corrected is the way to go. It's much easier to learn the moves and applications correctly. It's also more fun to do the training with others (IMO). May the force be with you... Always
stl_karateka Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 Welcome Books are no good 'cept for reinforcing what you are learning with a live instructor in person (not video!) KarateForums.com Sempai
BruceLee Posted January 23, 2004 Author Posted January 23, 2004 well, the thing is, the only thing I can really do is learn from a book because I can't really go to a school because of the money and the need of transportation. I'll probably take a class when I'm in college, but that's like two years The meaning of life... is to live.

Red J Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Welcome and make sure that you take advantage of the wrestling at your high school. It is great training for fitness, strength, and grappling. Good luck. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
BruceLee Posted January 25, 2004 Author Posted January 25, 2004 Yeah, I hope wrestling will help me a lot. The meaning of life... is to live.
