wingchunner
...an internal martial art from a book isn't good. You need to study from a good instructor who knows what they're doing. Having said that... I am beginning to offer some distance training if you or anyone else is interested. Have a great day. italian_guy
I think that studing an Internal MA from a book is not good. Tai Chi Chuan form, for example, are made of so many details that you absolutely need an instructor.
kempocos
NO martial art can truely be learned from a book, video , website. There must be a knowledable person who will be able to see and correct flaws in movement, stance, breathing, intent. The media such as books can help but can not replace a instructor. delta1
You need instruction for any martial art. That goes X 10 for internal arts. You can do yourself seriouse dammage if you do some of the things they teach incorrectly. Taiji, for example, is very good for your joints. But if you move wrong through your postures it can destroy your knees in short order. Also (and I'll probably regret saying this here), internal energy developement is nothing to fool around with on your own. Freedom isn't free! Sasori_Te
I wouldn't try learning an internal style from a book. At the very least you should have someone knowledgeable that you can turn to to ask questions about any internal training that you do. Maybe you could use a combination of books, video, phone and e-mail IF you already are familiar with some energy work or another internal style. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw. aefibird
I wouldn't recommend learning any style from a book. You need someone to be able to correct you and help you in your training. Books are great for reference and seeing techniques represented pictorally, but not as a textbook to learn from. TLynne, what art were you thinking of learning? "Was it really worth it? Budderfly
Can you study from a book? Possibly. Can you do it successfully? No.
