knuckle push ups

40 cent

Recommended Posts

ive been doing knuckle push ups on concrete for a few days and i developed blisters, which is ok (y) but, im wondering if i should continue to do the push ups on my knuckles, ie. heightening resilience and damaging them further etc. or would i be best to let the the wounds on my knuckles heal before doing them again?

thanks guys

well, i hear they're better on the wrists. i'd probably let the blisters heal and then not do them on concrete. condition my knuckles elsewhere. but whatever. that's just me :)

If you want to condition your knuckles, I would try other methods to build them up to start. One for beginning is to get a 5 gallon bucket and fill it full of sand and punch the sand just as you would strike. This will work out the whole arm, wrist and knuckles. Then you can build up to other things such as boards.

Hope this helps a bit.

Here's a wacky thought. Try using a makiwara as a regular part of your training. It strengthens the muscles and bones used in punching because you are punching. It also makes the striking surfaces tougher by striking a rough exterior. You can make your own with a 2 x 4, straw or some sort of thin padding and grass rope.

A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.

Punching sand, dried beans or whatever is an excellent way to condition hands, thats a traditional shaolin monck techniques, they punch buckets of dried beans 2000 times a day until the knuckle pain becomes so intense they have to stop, then they do it again the next day, that'll get u on the way to braking concrete blocks :karate: !
