delta1 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 On "the street", I'm willing to bet number one is a simple trip as the guy is backing up. Freedom isn't free!
martialartsresearcher Posted November 14, 2003 Author Posted November 14, 2003 the street you guys. sorry for not being more specific.
JohnnyS Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Depends whose doing the takedowns. Double-leg, single-leg would be up there for wrestlers. Basic Hip throw, o-soto-gari for Judoka and ju-jitsu guys. BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black BeltTKD - Black Belt
tokeabowl Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 sprawing is a good takedown, but i think it is dangerous on the streets. You should look in to Judo. Judo has some really good take downs. tokin' chokin' chillin'PRIDE! OKINAWA PRIDE!
TJS Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 sprawing is a good takedown, but i think it is dangerous on the streets. You should look in to Judo. Judo has some really good take downs. Sprawling is not a takedown at all. Sprawling is what youd o when someone shoots in for a takedown on you..you sprawl you legs back and drop down on top of them. It's proabably the best single takedown defense you can learn for the street or otherwise.
Treebranch Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Why is it that you really see lateral movement being used for avoidance when they work so fricken well? I do agree though being able to sprawl is absolutely necessary. JohnnyS Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Treebranch, Lateral movement isn't quick enough to stop a shoot from arms-length, that's why it's not used against takedowns. I'm sure if worked better than sprawling that it would be used by wrestlers in competition. BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black BeltTKD - Black Belt
