Ben
find a single damn place to hang a decent punch bag or heavy bag! its beggining to annoy me in a way. everywhere i look i'm constantly thinking "oh, maybe there! ... no =\" i was just wondering if you guys had any places, or even equipment, that its safe to hang a bag from. i would hang it from one of the rafters in the garage, but quite frankly i dont trust it. any input at all will be appreciated (if relevant )
hajime
Garage at least if it does pull the roof down it's the garage and not the house 700 hours of official training. Injury finished me dammit!1st Kyu Wado Ryu
Ben
LOL! ... theres the small problem of aspestos (i dont know, i'm bad spelling... the toxic stuff that is illegal now ) with the roof... so i think thats now narrowed the choices even more =\ i'd be willing if it was my garage, but living with my parents and all... bah any other suggestions anyone? Ben
My parents are very fond of gardening, but even before we moved in to this house there were no tree's :\ Although i'm now thinking of making my own hanging device that can be inserted into the ground... kind of extreme, but i could really benefit from some bag work
delta1
...i'm now thinking of making my own hanging device that can be inserted into the ground... kind of extreme, but i could really benefit from some bag work Actually, that is probably your best option, for a lot of reasons. One, it sounds like the least intrusive on your family overall. Two, you can put it where you want it, and if you make a freestanding device, you can even move it. (Frees up space, and prevents killing the grass in one area.) But most important, you can hang it how you want it hung. Examples: Hung on a pulley system on cable stretched tightly between two stout poles. This allows the bag to move along the cable as you strike it, adding a new dimension to your workout. Further, it can be rigged to be controled by training partners to move randomly. You can also rig it to function as a stationary bag for the standard bag workout. When the bag is in the middle section of the run, the bounce gives still another variable to deal with. My own bag is mounted in my garage. I used a bent steel pipe, mounted on a grouted pedistal and anchored to a reinforced wall by U bolts so that it swings. It can be locked in place by cables and quick disconnect clips, or allowed to traverse while I work out. I use a fifty pound bag so that I get a lot of bounce and swing as I hit it any way, plus the traverse. Or I can lock the arm in place and rig the bag as a double end bag. Another advantage, since this is my garage/shop, is I can swing it against the wall and anchor it there to free up floor space. I can also detatch the bag and hang other training apparatus if I want. Really, if you are doing it yourself, your immagination is the limmit. Finances may be a factor, but you can often scrounge the materials you need. Almost everything I used to install mine was either scrounged or surplus (you know, those things you held on to for years because they might be useful one day? The day has arrived!). Good luck with your project, and let us know how it goes. Freedom isn't free!
shotochem
I hang mine from my sons' old swing set. I'm finally getting my moneys worth out of it!!! You might also consider one of those free standing bags like the wave master. Just fill the base with sand instead of water so it wont tip over as easily. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
telsun
You could try this Freestanding Punchbag Frame http://www.martialart-superstore.starwebz.com/product-9.html Bit costly but it fits the bill............ I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
Ben
A bit too costly for a student such as myself. I just splashed out on an excersize bike, (Winter coming, rains all the time =\) a decent set of weights and a nice new pair of trainers... and what with me injuring my shoulder recently (no more work for 3 weeks.. which also means no money... and training ) i doubt i'll be able to afford that any time soon, hehe. All very good idea's and suggestions but I think i will just have to go with what delta says - although my step dad has nicked a load of metal poles/pipes and sold his welding gear a few weeks back... gaah the timing! thanks guys!
