Sure anyone can spew out some links.

What all of you failed to note is that Icetuete is "just starting out" on his running workout and thus is most probably tackling his workout in the wrong manner.

Ad RedJ posted a pre-warm-up is crucial but most importantly is a warm down.

It could possibly be a case of shin splints in which you can look up all those links that were suggested above.

Pain is pretty common when you start into a running regimen. First and foremost, make sure that you warm up and stretch thoroughly. Before my two mile Army Physical Testing, I always make sure to warm up for at least 20 minutes. Also, when you finish, run through the same warm up routine for a cool-down. Shin Splints will happen, but you've gotta push through and keep at it. For the first week or two, only run every other day, and be sure to ice your shins. Trust me, you've got to push through this stuff. Even I have pain from pressure fractures and the like. Take it from me, when you run 5 miles a day, you learn a thing or two about leg pain.

oh, the woman in black reminded me, you should probably consult with a runner for proper running form, as that in its self can be a hinderance. though i don't know that directly it would give you shin splints, it can cause other problems later, and really affects how long/far/fast you can run.

oh, and make sure you have a good pair of shoes. note:good, not necisarrily expensive. if you're running in your street shoes, you've already pounded the arch support out of them, and that will kill your shins. running shoes are only good for about 400 running miles (about one season). at that point, you can use 'em for street shoes and get a new pair.
