  1. it was shidoshi, and the founder of the style, who decided that all the kata must be changed. i know that the kata i was originally taught (and learned) was correct because i bought his tapes (although they were created in the late 90's).
  2. i asked a bunch of the black belts if they knew why, but no one could give me a real answer. the best one i got was that they were changed "to be good"?

  4. nope, the kata's themselves have been completley changed, some removed, some added. btw, chinese goju. some have just been tweaked, but then there are those that i don't recognize anymore.
  5. ive got a question. recently the creator of the style of karate i take decided to change all of our kata. personally, i kinda took this as a slap to the face, i mean i wasted alot of time and money learning the old ones, but anyway, the real question is, is this common? I was told its never happened in our style before, but since he's on a role, do you think that i should expect the kata to change again?
  6. sorry if I posted this in the wrong section. in my dojo the higher ranking children (under 16) are allowed to attend the adult class. while I have no objections to this, there is this one kid I'm often paired up with for sparring, self defense, etc. the problem is, he acts like he's 5 which causes problems, he flinches and starts wimpering even before any excersises begin, and goofs off during sparring. my kyoshi, sensei and rest of the senior belts know he does this, but I'm still paired with him--we're about the same height. any advice?
  7. thanks, but is there anything I can add for endurance, I'm sick of being tired and sweaty after 10 min.
  8. I'm looking for a light workout, to do on days opposite weight training, that'll help with flexability, endurance, kicks, etc. so far I've just been doing running jumping jacks, jogging with db's, punching with db's, a bunch of ab exercises and side kick calibrations.
