is this where the style bashing starts?
-
thank you for mentioning the Syllabus. this may be helpful for the original individual asking the question: http://www.pris.bc.ca/karate/adultsyllabus.htm Typical Kyokushin Syllabus and the one we follow in my dojo as well. Regards,
-
Actually by current Kyokushin Competition rules there is no clinching. Kneeing allowed obviously but for tournament fighting, NO grabbing. This may not enforced in the Dojo though. Shidokan, SeidoKaiKan, etc will still allow it.

In general ranks from other stylrs will not be transferable toa Kyokushin Dojo. If you came from one of the offshoots of Kyokushin, then maybe, or there may be a "probationary" time. So, obviously, you always keep yoour rank in your root style, no one is taking that away from you. But you really have no rank In Kyokushin and you are starting over at 10th Kyu. This is the way I handle it, and the way my seniors handle it. Due to some overlap, you may indeed progress faster than a complete novice. or the subtle and not so subtle) difference may drive you crazy and actually slow down your progress There will be differences. some very minor, and some almost a whole different beast. Kihon may bear the most similarity. I think an examle of Forefist Rising Block may be quite similar. Front stance is more alike than not. but the more you get into the new style you will see some changes. who knows which is "right" or "Wrong" but if you are trying to learn a NEW style to you, then the WHEN IN ROME saying will apply. Changing from one style to another is a personal choice. Since you have no Shotokan Dojo in your new area your options become limited. some options [brainstorming]: -train on your own all the time practicing what you know. -make frequent trips to seminars and gatherings -find training partners to do routines with -quit training all together -Open your own Shotokan Dojo -train with the Kyokushin club once and a while -fully embrace the (new to you) Kyokushin way. -move to somewhere there is a Shotokan Doko. good luck!

like i said in the other thread: yes although the same root kata they will look different. visit your local Kyokushin dojo and watch.
-
this is true. howeer he modified all of them and they do not look quite the same as the origanals. Seipai for example is barely recognizable, while others are more similar. He also made up a couple of his own such as Garyu "Reclining dragon"

as noted, get in close and pound the body. angles and using circular movement may also help.

Anytime you want to compete, travel will be involved. Probably one of the bigger organizations that sanctions Amature events is the IKF. Their website is at: http://www.ikfkickboxing.com/ the USKBA does as well, but it is a little more regional being located on the East coast, lots of fights in NJ and NY: http://www.uskba.com/ the ISKA does too, but I think they are more geared to Pros: http://www.iska.com/kickboxing/index.htm the other thing you could do is check with individual Gyms that host events. Duke Roufus is an example in the Midwest: http://www.dukeroufusgym.com/events.html Good Luck! Oh, there is also the WKA, I do not have their link though. -

having seen the fight, it is nice to see Sapp finally throw a couple of combinations, and finally start to use low kicks. I guess his training with Sam Greco is starting to pay off. Still though, he just beat someone with like 2 months training. not too much to brag about. thanks for the link to the fight! [/url] -

I dont know about MMA I have seen a couple of TKD practitioners in the K-1 MAX (The midleweight division) and they did not fair very well. Maybe Kyuk Too Ki produce some K-1 competitors as i understand that is the Korean style of Kickboxing. -

if you want information on Butterbean, he has been discussed to death on Sherdog the last 6 months or so. Lots of threads after his introduction to the K-1 format. i will paste in an example, plus there were lots of other ones especially after his fights with Fujimoto and Bernardo. http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95157&highlight=butterbean And no, i am not familiar with the WAA. You are quite likely correct that it is some unknown boxing thing -

Butterbean is BOXER so you have to look at his pathetic boxing record http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=014536 he just crossed over to the new frreakshow version of K-1 this last year. He beat Fujimoto, and then was later destroyed by Mike Bernardo. in two days he will be fighting a man who he outweighs by over 100%, but it will be under the K-1 MMA rules and is not a Kickboxing match. By the way, what is the WAA?? thanks -
