  1. In some law enforcement Pressure point control tactics clsses, they teach that a blow to the side of the neck can cause loss of control for a very short period of time. It's used to catch one off balance, and then take them down-removing the threat-but it's never done with anything besides a closed fist that I know of. Anything like an asp, pr-24, or even a chopping type strike would be considered excessive force.
  2. Eskrima ia an art, in which two sticks may be used at the same time, one in each hand. I'm fairly comfident that this is what the person meant when they said "double stick"

  4. In arts like Kobudo, and Eskrima, which focus almost entirely on weapons, how fast are you able to take on new eapons-what do you learn for each belt period, or amt. of time before and after black belt?

  7. All right, my body type sux for just about everything, I'll admit it. I'm 5'7", 152lbs. mostly muscle weight. I was wondering what arts you'd all sudjest for someone my size-I'm fairly quick, but tend more towards power than speed. Hope to hear your suggestiosn soon, and thnx.
  8. Hey Kickchop19. Red's got a great grasp of things. I had taken wrestling for three years, and was all right at defence, the added striking techniques are a very useful tool. When you put the two together you're prepared for the holds Thai_kick was mentioning.
  9. omnifinite's got the pronunciation right, and right on with the shin conditioning too. Muay thai practicioners also tend to get arthritis pretty bad if I'm not mistaken, allthough I'm not ruling that out. It's a very tough sports on your body.
  10. True, the more you condition, the more it'll wear on you, but have you ever tried hitting anything with your shins before? You need to build up the pain tolerance there. I think, though, that maybe this page has gotten a bit off track. If you're looking for a practical art, then yes, mauay thai may be for you. Any art, sport, or activity will wear on you eventually, though. You've just got to figure out which art is right for you, be it competitive, reflective, or recreational.
  11. You can put a tennis ball cut in half (or really any kind of marker, but the tennis ball is good) down, and mark 6in to 1 foot in four directions away from the tennis ball. While keeping your hips centered over the ball, you move either both feet, or one at a time to random markers around the ball.
  12. Hey, I used to be in wrestling, and I can tell you the smart thing to do: Run a lot, exercise for at the very least 40 minutes, and eat right. Not starve yourself, but eat right-the diet sites KickChick was talkin bout. Good luck.
