  1. For budget minded consumers: The Pro-Force Super Heavy Gi are great. They are no Tokaido, but MUCH better than their 12oz. Also, I HATE century Gis... and other than Century it is hard to find a good Tang Soo Do uniform and Pro Force 14oz come with black or midnight blue trim. Sadly, I never got a Sang Moo Sa before they went downhill. Hey JW, i have been looking for a new TSD uniform top, as i have had my century one for quite a few years and it is starting to show the wear and tear, literally. i was never fond of the century jacket for the first year i had it, it was a piece of cardboard and the size was odd, i needed like a size 5.5 and i noticed Pro Force has half sizes but nonetheless i had a few questions for you. Do you like your Pro Force Top, and are the sizes similar to centurys, and how long did it take to break yours in??? In Tang Soo, K.Chuilli
  2. well jujitsu is very cool, i like it, its japanese in origin and forces your opponent to comply with you, like it or not. jujitsu uses your opponents own energy, and momentum against him/her to get them into a series of joint locks and eventually kill. now joint locks arent all it is but it is an integral part to the system. the word jujitsu translated actually means gentleness believe it or not, because the internal part of the art is suppose to relax its students. jujutsu is a very close quarters art, because you fight in one circle and you try not to leave that, so you will never find yourself fighting distanced like some other arts. as far as weapons go, i know they use canes, and they might use swords i believe. good luck, hope this helped. 3. dazed and confused is right, as we all know MRIs can see cartiledge and ligaments and not just bone like most Xrays do. i would most definately go to an orthapedic of some sort because other doctors and nurses will just generically diagnose you while an orthapedic speacializes in this stuff, sees it all the time, and knows how fine and minute these things can be so he/she will most definately order up and MRI, prob after an Xray doesnt yield anything and you are still in pain.
  4. no, actually BT, the motion is identical, its just easier for most students to picture the foot hitting rather than the shin. once they learn the movement, now its easier to picture the thought of snapping the shin, into someones face. and also if you teach students only the shin way, they will use it to fight that way but if you actually go down your leg more and use your shin you tend to over commit, so thats also another reason, to use the furthest part of your foot.
  5. well for class purposes instep is fine, for pad work use ball or instep, but in street apps you will most likely be using your shin.
  6. yea i live in mass and have the same problem, its rediculous
  7. we do seminars all the time...and its all about K I S S e t i t e m u p p p l i e d theses people dont know the arts like you do, so keep it simple. and have fun with them. good luck
  8. well to be perfectly honest, just reading the title i instantly thought, worn down cartiledge/ligaments, now permanently missing, can recover in time becuase the should is such a 'busy' area of the body so now its bone against bown, and now that i have read your entire post i still believe that could be it, im not doctor yet but i have seen this before so it very well could be, but at the same time might not but if it is you would want to go see a doctor. what you are saying usually implicates unecessary grinding or rubbing. good luck. definately go see a doc tho. not just us
  9. well good luck with that. thats alot of styles and alot of laguages, you might find that you will have to narrow it down or else you wont finish this before you die! But good luck, most people dont open their minds enough to go out and try so many good things. good luck to ya, God Bless. In Tang Soo, K.Chuilli
  10. yea little love taps but the biggest thing was not a fist but a lateral elbow across the nose...CRUNCH! yea didnt feel too good after that, and we werent even fighting, it was controled one steps hah!
  11. The only way to tell is to watch them at work, and if they are willing to answer all your questions, then make sure whatever style it is, is fight applicable, if not then what kinda martial art is that? BUt definately check out all studios in your are, see which style you take to most, and which instructors come off the right way. alotta times you'll get that gut feeling that hey this studio isnt right, and alot of times it will end up being a belt factory. thats another thing to look for, how long til they reach black belt? anything less than 3 years, would be alittle sketchy to me. Also how long between regular ranks? Just simple questions and a general feel of the place should tell you what youre lookin for. good luck
  12. In our tang soo do system... white yellow orange orange w/green stripe green green w/red stripe green w/another red stripe red red w/black stripe red w/another black stripe black then degrees up to nine
  13. I practice Tang Soo Do and we do a heck of alot of kicking and high kicking, so the pants of my uniform i wear are very important to me and my performance, but i have had century's traditional heavyweight drawstrings for as long as i can remember but as i keep using them i realize more and more how obnoxious and uncomfortable they are. They are too thick, so im thinking about moving down to middleweights. But i have had people tell me the lower in weights or ounces you go down the more see-through the pants become. I have been searching for pants all day, so im looking for a non see through, pair of pants that i can really kick and feel comfortable in thats not century brand because they are not to fond of them and i really dont want to spend huge money on them right now, i plan on getting a more expensive pair for my next promotion. Any ideas or suggestions anyone? any input would be helpful. Thanks. In Tang Soo, K.Chuilli
  14. well, i dont know exactly what language it is xena(might be japanese, dont quote me though) but i know in my korean art we call them cho dan bo's and it means black belt candidate, its the waiting period between the last rank and 1st degree. hope that helps.
  15. wow congrats on having such an affect on this young man. just simply to be able to block and counter in a real fight is quite an accomplishment.
