  1. Getting punched in the face is something that happens to me a lot, my lil bro will just sucker punch me to get a fight started, also a kid who hates me has punched me quite a few times, first time I saw rainbow of colors.
  2. I'm surprised this hasn't come up before. I think a problem is that men are afraid to hit a woman because of the upbringing most men have that you should never hit a woman. And yes you are supposed to spar with each other but there are other spots to hit on a woman than hitting the most obvious. And when women are sparring some will wear a chest guard in case they are hit there.
  3. I think Jr. Black Belts are very impressive, they enjoy their sport enough to where they are recognized for their skill and some sensei's will allow them to teach other kids as well and it can keep them coming back and learning more or even want to learn other styles of martial arts. I have a saying for things like this which goes "They have opened the door to their journey and now the second part of the journey is beginning.
  4. Wow congrats on getting your 2nd degree black belt also, time doesn't matter, just as long as you enjoy practicing martial arts.
  5. well the part-time thing makes sense since the classes are only held on tuesday and thursday and each class is an hour long. I guess it's a club because there are not that many students so instead of being a school or dojo it's a club. But here is a odd thing, the man is opening another club in a city an hour away.
  6. kenjutsu isn't a widely available sport, I know there is a dojo in Californa, New York City and Japan, Now Iaido is just as bad I believe, I want to take Kenjutsu but since I don't live near a Dojo I just accept it keep a Katana in my room, (i've been known to act like Gollem over it).
  7. Wow that's weird, You'd think it'd be the other way around, I'd die to have free lessons but we live in a materialist world.
  8. the place near me charges $105 for 3 months and they give you a free gi which isn't bad.
  9. thanks for the tips and as soon as I gather up some money and get a car I'm going down there and watching a class or two, the sensei sounds like a nice guy and I'll talk to the students as well, a teacher is only as good as the students he teaches.
  10. I haven't watched any classes because I don't have a license and or a car but I did find a website that the teacher's sensei is part of so at least he is telling the truth about his sensei and the price is for 3 months so it comes out to $35 a month which isn't bad and he also gives free gi's. My next step is to go and watch some classes and see what they are like.
  11. Well I guess with some they fear what may happen if they do hit the person even though they are supposed to. But Sparring could save your life or someone else's so go ahead, push the thoughts out of your mind and remember the person in front of you is your opponent.
  12. Heard some good news for us nunchuckers, a lawyer is trying to get this evil law taken off the books for people who want to own nunchucks in their home, and whatever, but I think it'd still make chucks illegal in you walk around with them, sorta to carrying a sword outside. But one problem is that this little tadbit of info came from Wikipedia so don't hold me to this cause it could be false.
  13. Hi everyone, I have been talking to a man that runs a karate club in a town near me and he says he is part of a martial arts organization called the New World Martial Arts Association. Has anyone heard of it? I've tried looking for a website to see if they are a good organization since it could be something he is making up, I'd hate to spend $105 for bogus lessons.
  14. I think you should sit him down and ask him what interests him, maybe Karate sounded like fun but he found it didn't hold his interest, you should encourage him to pursue what ever he truly likes.
  15. Thanks, that is what I thought it was but I wasn't totally sure and I didn't want to say something wrong and embaress myself.
  16. Hi There is a Karate club near where I live in Malone New York and the person who runs it uses a building that has a gym and it's name is the Ducote Karate Club and I have sent him e-mails and gotten replies but is a Karate club something that doesn't have a fixed building?
  17. Well I'm short (5'3) and tall people have a advantage but I think we are mixing up some things, short people are anything from 5'0-5'5 and if you think of it they aren't really all that short and if a fight with bare hands they could do some damage but some can move quickly under a person who is top heavy. I've wrestled with my friends and it's kinda even, I do a lot of finger bending and also I get my hands near sensative places like the neck plus I've got a friend who is 6'4-6'5 and while we were wrestling I delivered a series of strong kicks to the back of his knee and he said that they really hurt.
  18. You take a creative writing class and all the characters know martial arts and you give lenghty and descriptive fight scenes, you laugh at the Power Rangers then tell your lilttle bro how to do a kick properly.
  19. I will wake up to anything that is loud and I can be ready to go within two minutes (I blame my dads Air Force training) it wasn't fun in college for me when I was just getting to bed and had just fallen asleep when the evil fire alarm hit me causing me to fall out of my bunk bed and hit the floor. That'll just about wake anyone up.
  20. A place not far from me charges $105 for three months which is an awesome deal and he gives you a gi for free as well let you go and see if you really like it.
  21. I'm not afraid to die as I know that I could choke, or be in a bad car accident so I live every day as if it's my last, would it suck to die, yes cause there is much I haven't done but I'm not gonna cry and whine about death.
  22. Hi Mark Norris, Welcome to the forums, you'll find nothing but excellent people here.
  23. Man I feel dumb for not thinking of that when I posted, my head would float away if it wasn't attached to my neck.
  24. Does anyone know of where or if one can buy it for just general viewing pleasure?
  25. I'm 45% addicted which is odd because people always complain about how they can't get through to me because I am on the Internet ALL the time.
