  1. No one is to hurt his feelings, because he will get you back for it 10 times worse. Just odd I must say.. His story also seems HIGHLY unlikely. There are a few traditional schools where I live as well, and they tend to tell stories like this, and things like their hands are certified weapons etc. this is all hokus pokus, you can train as long as you want, but you will never be Superman. Those type of stories got by in 80s during the Karate Kid times, but not today. But I will say that you have been respectful and responded to everyone here in a respectful manner, so that on the other hand has impressed me.
  2. That's the most crazy thing I have heard. I do karate but in a non-traditional school. I didn't even know that it was disrespectful to drop your belt on the floor. I would be pretty angry at my sensei if he injured me because i dropped my belt. Everybody is talking about how martial arts today are losing their sense of an art compared to what they used to be. But if that's what being a TMA means, then I am glad that martial arts are moving in the direction that we are moving in today. We are supposed to show each other the same amount of respect regardless of belt status in my opinion. At the end of the day we are all people, and if I got my shoulder dislocated for makeing a human "error" such as dropping my belt, then that's highly disrespectful on the senseis part from my point of view.
  3. Teakwondo belts tend to be easy, and BJJ belts hard.
  4. Nobody ever wanted me to get to one because it would always be followed with one hundred side kicks for the whole room. Those people must have developed some solid side-kicks, I wish I got to do that aswell hehe.
  5. Wow, I pay 70 dollars for 4 months, but training is very cheap here in sweden compared to the united states.
  6. Rodney King says that you can use any guard from a distance, but when getting showered with punches, that's a good guard to turn to.
  7. its would be good to start doing martial arts weak, so you get flawless technique, and then build on muscles, and just stick to the good technique you already have
  8. Very effective, but it can be deadly. A knee to the groin still might be the better option.
  9. Does this tend to tip off people that you spar frequently? Does it become predictable at times, or are you able to work around it?It actually does make me a bit more predictable for the people I constantly sparr with, but I still have a very unorthodoxed style in general, so it's hard to figure out what I am about to do next.
  10. Well, when I got into a fight the andrenaline dump was huge, my legs felt so heavy. But the basic techniques that I had practiced alot still worked just fine. My roundhouse to the midsection was still pretty technical, and I followed with a straight right that I felt I had good controle over aswell. But yes the flashy technqiques are pretty useless.

  12. Crazy monkey defense, look it up on youtube if you don't know what it is. It's the best guard if you don't have gloves.
  13. 3 days a week, but man do I wish I had my own key so that I could work on some things by myself.
  14. I tend to do different attacks depending on which side is my lead. For example, the side-kick, I only do that if my right leg is the lead leg.
  15. Congratulations, how old is your son now?
  16. I felt bad for him, he actually hit them real hard, but they were rock solid!
  17. What do you think is the best way to defend a groinkick? Some martial arts like burmese boxing that allow groin kicking, should be better at defending it than anybody in my opinion.
  18. the groin is a quick response especially in self defense situations and when talking to women, but its actually been proven that groins are just a little below OK but not a great idea. for many reasons including it doesnt take much to cut off the target, just simply turning to the side, then you are off balance and they are not(big trouble!) also it isnt a big target(in most cases ) so missing and slipping are very easy. also its not an extremely painful target, is it painful, heck yeah, but nothing in comparison to a punch or kick anywhere else, and its certainly not deadly, so a few seconds later the man's reaction to your groin kick is going to be a hugely angry reaction where now you have bigger problems than you probably began with. kneecaps are also a little bit of a risk, its best to attack those from the side...not the kneecap itself per-se. but then again, anything can work if its set up properly, how you'll set somebody up to spread-em beats me You must be girl because any man knows that the groin is the mother of all pain haha. No but seriously, it is the most painful place to get struck, I would rather take 10 punches to the head than that. You do make good point it not being the easiest place to strike however, especially the kneecap is a small target to be aiming at.
  19. No, but since its martial arts related I for one think its and intresting discussion.
  20. Like 2 months ago guy just walking by in town gave me the finger, I got into a fight with him, usually i am a calm person, but you just don´t flip a person off like that. I wish it did not bother me, but it does. I think it is a lot from person to person how you react.

Karatekas block kicks unlike other styles, they will pull their hand down to to block a roundhousekick, in my opinon thats a stupid thing to do, because you never know when that kick can go to the head. This is not a my martial art is better than yours, because obviously I do karate aswell haha, but I dont do that block.
  22. Last week I downloaded a video of the 2007 world championships in taekwondo. I had seen highlights before on youtube, so I figured it should be somewhat exciting. I gotta tell you, I really think that it is the most boring form of martialarts competation I have ever seen. You get 1 minute of them standing and mesuring the right distance, and then both guys throw the roundhouse at the same time and usually they don't hit properly and just end up in something that is supposed to be a clinch. I watched for like half an hour and just had to turn off. I´m not looking to badmouth any taekwondo guys in here, I actually like it and use some of their techniques in my own game, but something really has to be done about the competition part to make it more interesting to watch IMO.
  23. Tell me about it, the other day I got in a fight with 2 guys, I got the better end of it and they looked like they did not dare fight any more as they backed off. In 20 seconds it went from 2 opponets to 15 lol. My ego did not let me run, til the point I got kicked in the groin, then there was not much to do than to run for it, probobley the best thing that could have happend to me, would have been worse if I would have stayed.
