  1. It might sound cheesey, but a Martial Artist is defined from inside. He developed a ligitimate (in the sense that it works) style and is a stronger Martial Artist. Black Belt is irrelevant. I don't think it matters.
  2. nice
  3. Nurse: Doctor Doctor there's an invisible man waiting for you- He's really sick! Doctor: Tell him I can't see him! 2 muffins are in an oven, one says jeez its hot as hell in here and the other says Holy Crap a talking muffin! Did you hear about the dog who, although born without a nose, could still sniff out cancer? No, how did he smell? Terrible! (like this joke) Did you hear about the actress who stabbed that guy? What?!?!?!? Yeah it was like Reese, Reese something... Witherspoon?! No no no with er knife! Did you hear about the blackbelt who joined the army? No? Yeah the first time he saluted he nearly killed himself! A priest a rabbi and an imam walk into a bar ouch I got s'more but woodint want to make you too stoopid
  4. Very cool. More and more schools are realizing they need to mix it up if they want to keep students. This is true, however, this is also why I just assume use the English terms for the techniques, places, names, etc. If you do a Korean form, and want to use the Korean name, then fine. That would be the equivalent of calling a Korean city by its Korean name. However, calling the school a dojang, and then the instructor sensei, just because it sounds like the cooler name, doesn't make much sense to me. I cant say i completely get what you're sayin here
  5. love jazz guitar, music, tennis, learning stuff.
  6. I highly disagree. As said in Karate Kid "We learn to fight so we don't have to fight."
  7. ??? did not get the question
  8. I like the nunchuck to nuts one
  9. Doing warmups when my pants fall, little by little, halfway down my crack!!!!!
  10. I know i sound like an idiot asking this, but what are katas and kumite, etc?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
  11. I think it is good in self defense cuz you can scare the hell out of the aggressor. I also find it helps if you exhale when physically active, and screams work (look at women's tennis!)
  12. usually at what belt do students start sparring? just wondering
  13. thanks all especially you learning kenpo-kempo
  14. The paradox is that a blue belt might think he kicks butt, but the black belt knows how little he actually knows. Becoming a black belt is a milestone, where you go back to "white belt level". You have now achieved the initial goal, but the journey through the dans is the same as the journey to black belt. It is a renewal. That's what I think
  15. I am actually going to a dojhang where a mixture of kung fu, TKD, karate, aikido, hapkido, etc. are taught
  16. In my previous MA experiences, I came to learn that I was going to a DOJO to be taught by a SENSEI, and when we did rolls etc. we said ICHI NI SAN SHI GO... My questions are: 1) I about to start at a place called a dojhang. What language is this? 2) What are sensei, dojo, and other commonly used japanese terms in korean and chinese? thanks for any help
  17. At my dojhang/dojo, we learn a mixure of kung fu, hapkido, aikido, judo, karate, tae kwon do, etc. My sensei feels that, just like at school you not only learn math, a plethora of other subjects, MA students must have balanced knowledge of katas, style, culture, philosophy, and an overall understanding of all MA's. I highly respect this philosophy, and find it can be more useful to know all these things.
  18. Okay I am a total MA NOOB! I take aikido, but i'm not any good (i've been taking only for about 4 weeks) and am thinking about simulatneously taking karate. PLEASE could someone explain the differences between types of karate. It seems like there are so many I don't know where to start. How did you choose style? any advice would be very appreciated javascript:emoticon(':karate:')
  19. That is kinda wierd I'm having (almost) the exact same problem. Right now I take aikido, but I haven't even gotten my white belt. Still, I am also hoping to take karate. I don't know about all the different kinds though.
  20. And ping-pong.
  21. currently I take from the park district (not a seperate dojo) and we meet only once a week for an hour but the rest of the week i'm all jumpy and can't wait to go back. I wish I could go more
