Did I mention I paid $102 USD a month? Notice that was past tense.

I have a rather spoiled miniature dachshund. Being single, I've discovered that he is quite the magnet

I dated a nice young woman when I was in college. We went one Halloween to see Rocky Horror. She knew all the audience participation lines...freaked me out!! I guess I was jealous 'cause I couldnt join in the fun

Possibly giving away my age here, but if you're really wanting something different, try bluegrass. Go get a copy of Ralph Stanley's greatest hits. You'll see the intelligence in his stuff soon enough.

Interesting, another Cop story..

I believe the security officer was pullling your chain a bit. I'm not aware of a state that actually says you have to inform your attacker of your martial arts experience. If anything, saying something that preposterous to someone who wants to knock your block off, it will open up more conversation between the two parties. Maybe you could both talk yourself out of the whole thing. Oh yeah...that...and...uh...there's probably a reason why the security gaurd is no longer an officer of the law. -
OK, so I woke up this morning, got a wild hair, and tried to find a *FREE* boxing round timer online. I found the usual cd packages for sale, but I'm cheap. I'm looking for something that will give 3 min. rounds with 1 min. rest periods. Preferrably something that I could burn to cd. ANyone have leads on such a thing? *rei*

There are times when I feel more comfortable performing things right and left handed. But, if I ever actually begin to think about those things while I'm doing them...heaven help me I'll manage to screw it up ;P

wado_lee.... What part of the country are you in? Where do you study?

I was taught the stance was called gyakuzuki dachi. Fun little stance, a little ackward looking...but..man...you can generate a WHOLE lot of power from it

there are so many folks that simnply say that Wado is an offshoot of Shotokan. One thing that most people do not realize is that Wado Ryu is deeply influenced by Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu...not necessarily Shotokan (although you will find elemts of Shoto in Wado). Master Ohtsuka earned the title of Grandmaster of Shindo Yoshin Ryu. It takes the practioner quite a while to see the jujitsu influence.

Is karate effective when used as a self defense? YES Have patience and learn as much as possible. People get frustrated with traditional karate/martial arts because they want instant gratification and want to be able to "hurt people" right off the bat. That's not what karate is about. It teaches many things, including self defense.

For me, it depends on what the distance is to the person's leg I'm about to sweep. Usually, if I'm in closer, I tend to bend the leg a little more. At a farther distance, I'll distract with my hands then go for a sweep with a straighter leg...then...hehehe...they better have headgear on *rei*
