  1. Thanks for all your comments. As to answer spinninggumby, the name taichi derives from my all-time fav movie- The Tai Chi Master with Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh. I don't practice tai chi, but I would really want to. Yang style all the way!
  2. ronryu, your style looks like a mix of goju and shotokan. Interesting
  3. Hey Karatekid, would you mind telling us what shaolin forms you practice? Maybe I'm in the wrong forum
  4. Currently I'm not because I haven't found the time. I practice my hyung whenever I can, and kung fu...well, that's a different story. G95 Champ, what styles do you train?
  5. You're right. I basically learned the forms to get to the next belt, not understanding the applications of the techniques. I was pretty young when I got my black belt so I didn't really care about knowing when and how to use these techniques in a tough confrontation. Thank you for that comment. Now I know what I can focus on. Quick question- anyone here practice palgue instead of tageuk? They seem closer to ITF. Any info would be greatly appreciated
  6. This is just the second forum I've joined so I don't have much experience. I'm more of a martial art enthusiast than a practicioner. Styles I'm fairly proficient at are taekwondo and kung fu. I'm very interested in karate also. Well, that's all. I'm looking forward to reading all the comments here as well as posting some of my questions.
  7. Does anyone know what kata Choki Motobu practiced? Also, ronryu, would you mind telling us what kata your school practices?
  8. What hyung do Hapkido practicioners practice?
  9. So no one here practices WTF TKD Poomse exclusively? To me, the Taegueks are useless and robotic
  10. I think that Hung Gar and TKD complement each other. TKD is very stiff and practical, while Hung Gar is a little more flowing and requires a little more finesse. Kensai, what style(s) do you practice? Thanks for the comments so far.
  11. Anybody have more info on this style? All I know about him is that he was a very influential Karate stylist and that he specialized in the Naihanji and Bassai kata. Any information would be greatly appreciated
  12. I'm learning the Black Belt Poomse again but I forgot the Taeguek's. I've been considering the issue, and I believe that the Black Belt Poomse is almost a separate system. When you get a black belt, is it recommended that you practice the old hyungs or focus on the black belt hyung?
  13. I originally practiced WTF Taekwondo and got a 2nd degree black belt in that martial art. I had to quit due to the distance. After some time, I picked up some Hung Gar (Gung Gee Fook Fu and Tiger Crane) and have learned the first two forms of the style. Does anyone out there think studying both Kung Fu and Taekwondo is a good thing? Do you think someone in my situation should practice both styles regularly? Any comments would be welcome.
