Fighting..tense...arg, please help
metalhead replied to BladeLee's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This has happened to me before and at least in my case the problem was everything else in my life. I learned that if anything is going poorly and I dwell on it I would loose focus on the other things/activities. At least in my case, it all became a matter of focus. I realized that there will always be some amount of stress in my life, be it work or family related, and that the key was to focus on the task at hand get through it and move on. I found that MA could be my momentary escape from reality if I could step away from the day to day and focus on the task at hand whether it was forms, sparring or whatever. This became clear to me when I finally achieved a long time goal at work which had been dogging me for weeks. That very evening, in my regular class I nailed a form that I had been having trouble with, it just seemed to flow and I realized that I was allowing my work related frustration to affect other areas of my life. I know this is alot easier said than done and it may not be the same for you, but maybe it will help. Good Luck -
Uniforms in Public Schools Or No Uniforms?

My thoughts exactly. Well said omnifinite. -
Good article about a sad state of affairs. It is likely that a big percentage of the attendees are a loarge part of the problem in their own countries. Or I am just bitter because I did not get invited....j/kGood article about a sad state of affairs. I agree with Jack, cosmetic surgery for vanities sake is pointless. I personally would not want implanted abs, pecs or anything else for that matter. It means more to me to know that through hard work and dedication I have achieved a goal. Not to mention that I have never liked the idea of surgery period let alone volunteering for it.

To Bow or not to Bow (?)

Well said KSN Doug - Now pray to the big gold cow or receive "Boot to the Head" j/k.... oh, and thank you ramymensa -
When I am running, doing calesthenics or lifting I like all types of loud fast rock music. Currently my favorites are Godsmack, Default, Hoobastank, Puddle of Mudd and the like.. When practicing forms, meditating or anything where I need to focus I like Celtic music. I have several of these CD's which are mostly instrumental with natural sounds mixed in. These seem to relax me without being a distraction or overwhelming.

To Bow or not to Bow (?)

It amazes me how people who profess such strong faith can be upset and even offended by a simple gesture of respect. I pity the person whose faith can be threatened by a bow. -
I lost most of my interest after the last strike. I have no interest in millionaires fighting with billionaires over an obsenely large pile of money.

My junior high Gym Teacher made us do those. I always suspected he belonged in prison.........j/k

My class is 70 minutes. The first 30 minutes is comprised of stretching and warm up exercises, sometimes the stretching is intense. The last 40 minutes is devoted to forms, technique, two man drills, etc....

Kung Fu links
metalhead replied to Jack's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
https://www.shaolinwolf.com is a good site for information also try yahoo.com opening page bottom left under Sports & Recreation. Click the Sports link and look for the Martial Arts link after that. The list that links you to has alot of sites under various styles. The ones I remember off the top of my head are Baguazhang, Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan. -
What discipline do you train in?
metalhead replied to Tapout's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Good idea Tapout. I suspect that it is very diverse and that is what makes it such a good forum. -

metalhead replied to three60roundhouse's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is just sad. I just read the Black Belt test requirements on the KSD link KickChick posted. All it involves is 30 min. of hitting pads or mitts and then board breaking. Oh and btw, they have no other belts in their system only black. What a load of BS..... Adults should no better, I feel sorry for the kids. -
Great article KickChick especially the end. Kinda makes you reflect and wonder.

What Instant Messenger are you? Candy bar? Soda?
metalhead replied to Patrick's topic in General Chat
Here is mine: http://quiz.sereine.net/img/trillian.gif You're Trillian, the coolest instant messenger of them all. You can connect to five different instant messengers at once... neat! http://quiz.sereine.net/img/caramilk.gif Just stuffed full of surprises. No one ever knows what you're going to do next. The greatest mystery to you is, naturally, "how do they get the caramel in the Caramilk bars? http://www.thevishal.com/quiz/dr_pepper.gif -
When I said standard I meant across the board for everyone, no consideration of size, gender or mental ability. I agree it would be impossible for each person to have their own standard. I am not saying that the martial arts should be closed to anyone. In fact I believe quite the opposite. What I meant was that I do not believe in preferential treatment as I think it does more harm than good. If someone has limits than they must operate within them. It doesn't do anyone any good to make them think they can spar with a seasoned fighter when they cannot. However, to teach them to defend themselves and be confident in their abilities is always a good thing. I agree with everything you have said LeaF even if I am unable to communicate my opinion clearly.
