Can also do a connection test using Skype to measure the speed between you and someone else. If you click on them and go "check settings" there's a tab for "connection" which you can use to test the speed between you and the other person. Lets you know what type of audio/video quality you'll expect.

Can't say as I recall it either, Bob. I do think I've heard of it before. Is that not "Hwarang Do" Close, but Hwarang Do translates into "The Way Of The Flowering Knights". However, I was a jbb when I first heard it and I could've replaced "Knights" with "Hand". Of course, there is the fact that I'm much older and my memory isn't what it use to be. Ah ok. Knew it had the flowering part in there. "Hwa"-something then Maybe "Hwa-Soo Do" as I think (correct me if I'm wrong) the "soo" part of Tang Soo Do and Kong Soo Do is "hand".

They NZ's always do the Haka at our TKD tournaments, especially if they win something. When I went to the World's in '09 one of their guys did a TKD-style Haka on the mats, very cool The Samoan and Tonga rugby team do it too. Awesome when these teams have to play each other: You guys ever seen the gingerbread Haka :

Effective training method?
DWx replied to datguy's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Depends if they really do segregate the styles totally. It might be 3 months Judo then 3 months Juijitsu but we're going to apply that Judo to our Juijitsu practice? Unlikely though. Try it and see but I'd say if you wanted to learn 3 styles at once, best to 1 night a week in each rather than blocking off chunks or training. -
Worked out I got tickets to the heavyweight finals in class C seats! This has made my week

Would You Like to Train Via Skype?
DWx replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
But would sure give us a new way to look at things. A little TKD can go a long way. Cool well I'm definitely open to it, can imagine I would learn loads from you guys Plus it might be nice to actually show and explain sine wave as it is rather frustrating when people don't get it -

I think "Taekwon Do" as a name is pretty interesting. Or at least the way the name came about. Obviously at that time, the Kwan leaders really did not want to be calling their art "Karate" because they didn't want to be associated with the Japanese. Do you go back to the Chinese influence and call it "Tang Soo Do" (as the Moo Duk Kwan did), "Kong Soo Do" or do you come up with a new word(s) to describe what you're doing? So in 1955 you get the leaders of the Kwans to meet in a kisaeng house and the name "Taekwon Do" is born. "Tae Kwon" conveniently can be related to "T'aekkyon" and Gen. Choi all but forced the other Kwans to use it. I do feel a little sorry for those people who get Chinese or Japanese tattoos. Its easy to get duped if you don't know the language. You just have to go with what the tattoo-artists says it means.

Very interesting read Bob. Loved listening to you and hearing about Shindokan on Sunday

I have the same problem Justice, cooking for one is hard with the wastage. Especially when you're on a budget its really difficult to throw anything away. When I can be bothered, I tend to make large batches of stuff and freeze it. Its cheaper to buy in bulk anyway and makes for a quick meal so I'm not tempted to get a takeaway when I don't want to cook.

Would You Like to Train Via Skype?
DWx replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Nice idea! Well I'm definitely up for that. If anyone wants my ID, I'll PM you it. Skype ID is enough Bob, only have to fill that bit in to add the contact (or we'll add you) and they'll be sent a request to be Skype friends edit: although on second thoughts, I might be a bit limited in what I can add to the mix because I don't know any Japanese Katas and ITF TKD is a little weird -
Good luck Justice Sure you'll be awesome. I've always wondered, what do you have to do for a Capoeira grading? I assume the roda itself plays a large part, but do you have to do stuff akin to Japanese/Korean style gradings in that you show off your basics, get asked theory etc. ?

What Would You Like to Know About Me or KarateForums.com?
DWx replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
That is my same exact question! Great minds think alike Always wondered why on earth you started a martial arts forum, Patrick, when you don't practise yourself. And does this make it more difficult (or maybe easier?!?) to run because you can't always join in with all the threads that are going on? Especially at the start of KF.com's life I've always wondered how you got things going when you yourself don't do MA. What did you talk about? Also I guess it'd be cool to know how (if at all) KarateForums.com has made an impact on your life. You started it pretty young and its been a decade! -

How Did You Find KarateForums.com? Why Did You Sign Up?
DWx replied to Patrick's topic in General Chat
Can across it from a post on a different forum. Was actually reading a thread on Junior blackbelts/children training and just had to have my say on the matter -
^ JusticeZero said everything I was going to say, and better. Holley, things may be sucky right now but work through it and it'll only make you stronger.

Style: Taekwon-Do (ITF) Rank: 3rd dan Days: Bit mixed up to be honest. Don't really have any school to train at when I'm away at uni so its really just whatever I can manage on my own. I do come back home every fortnight and train pretty much the whole weekend. Do the Friday class (if my train gets in on time), several of the classes on Sat and a 3hr squad training session on Sun. But when its the holidays I try to fit in as much as possible which is usually minimum 4 days a week (so I answered the poll with 4).
-
With all due respect Holley, suck it up. I'm 20 too and I still live with my parents (when I'm not at uni). Although I may not agree with them all, I abide by my parents' rules because its their house and if I want the privilege of living there I do what they say. Grounding you doesn't really seem like an appropriate punishment for a 20yr old but hey, its her house, her rules.

White, Brown, and Black!
DWx replied to sensei8's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
I can see what you are saying here, and I don't disagree. But many people are goal oriented, and when there are visible, set goals they can see, and know what they need to do to achieve it (objectives), it helps with motivation. I would just mention that this is the other side of the belt systems. That's very true and agreeable. ``````````````````````````````````` So how many people here think that a 'shorter' ranking system would damage their commerce? I don't think its a question of damaging commerce. Or at least I don't think that's what Brian was getting on at (correct me if I'm wrong ). Its not a about the money. You could make more more by having the shorter belts system and charging horrendous amounts for each testing if you wanted to. Having short achievable goals can help motivate people because they can easily see what they need to achieve to pass the next mark. They know that they have 3,4,5 etc. months to sort out x, y, z techniques, kata, whatever. Longer gaps can be a bit disheartening, especially for people at the early stages but it just seems so far away. Having a testing coming up is something exciting and motivating. Maybe later on start to increase the time between each testing when students can really appreciate that they are working hard for themselves and not for the belt. -
