my cheif instructor is in his mid 60's and he still is very quick, also i was on a fumio demura sensie course not long ago and i could not block any of his punches as the quickness was fast... can't amagine what their speed was like 30 years ago

i agreee insurance is a priority.. , but also make sure you dont make a huge financial loss on the event, i'm not saying your in it for the money, but you don't want to put a burden on your wallet..

my mate tried showing off to his girlfriend of the time, and bare footed he done a front kick to her, but aher natural reaction was to raised her foot as she was sat down... I heard this rip noise as there feet collided. My mate had ripped all the skin under his toes and ended up having a few stiches a the emergency ward.. he was out of training for ages... that was funny looking back at it now....

the best thing to do is with your partner do sparring in SLOW-MO then work up after a few lessons faster and faster, thats how i teach my students and it does work

what we do at my dojo is: we practise a lot of slow-mo sparring, where you obviousley go slow then over a couple weeks build up faster and faster... it does work and you become more of a relaxed natual fighter on the mat. ask your instructor to try this, as it's only your second sparring session , surely your instructor can not expect you to be 100% perfect...
