  1. Congrat's, what kyu/level is that? I don't have any experience with Hapkido.
  2. That's what my sensei said, after returning to the UK in 1984 he started his own association. Training under Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa really had an impact. I also have to agree, the martial arts made me more self-confident and because of the hard work (and my inhalers) my asthma improved quite alot. You could say that I'm a different and better person because of the martial arts. -ken
  3. Wow, to be able to study karate in Japan, you must be very lucky indeed. My previous sensei actually went to Japan to train for a while enjoyed it alot. He did say that over there Karate is alot more stricter, but I guess that's expected. Apart from that I don't think I can add anything else that hasn't been said already -ken
  4. Cool, I was trying to come up with an proper indepth explanation for a couple of friends that aren't martial artist. You've saved me a mouth full of words. I've directed them to this Thanks -ken
  5. All of schools in the UK the classes are paid per class. I use to do 4 times a week, but now a days I go twice a week. Karate, or any martial art, isn't a race to see how many classes one can do and how fast one can rise thru the ranks, it about perfection of character (in my opinion), if 1 class is all you can do a week, then 1 class will have to be enough. What will be the difference? Well instead of attaining your black belt in say 4 years approx, it may take you a little longer, say 6 or 8 (you get my drift). In the future things will change and hopefully then you'll be able to increase your classes. That's my opinion anyway. -ken
  6. Me personally, I like the traditional white gi with a small club/association patch on your left part of the chest.
