If they don't accept your strikes on them as legitimate, as said before you should give them a quick tap or speak to the teacher. It sounds like it might be a bit of pride coming in, are you new to the class? It could be that they don't want a 'new guy' coming in and showing them how its done?

I gotta say I think it's faked... how else would the cameraman sit there and film two guys talking? And he looks like he's up a tree anyways so he's thought it through!
-
Well I've waded through pages of legislation and looked on other forums and I've still had no luck with this one - what is the legislation surrounding the use and transport of nunchucks and other MA weapons in the UK?!?!?!? If ANYONE knows anything can they post it please, I would really appreciate input! Scotty

Being attacked with a katana, what would you do?
Scotty replied to Myth's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
First thing I would want to do would be to try and arm myself... with anything. Even just the shirt on your back can be used to grasp the blade if it's thick enough. And assuming I can't run away (which I would) I would try my best to get the blade from him. -
well... I just bought some nunchaku lol. was easier than making my own

mmm french fries... HI2U2! lol

there is a similarity in some modern freestyle forms of karate to wing chun, becayse the ideas were adopted and integrated. So a lot of karate schools may have something similar to Wing Chun in the syllabus. Try the internet for them, they're less well known but usually very active

let's have it again... one sword is better than two! =P

Why is the spear called the king of weapons?
Scotty replied to parkerlineage's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
You throw a spear? I thought you meant like a staff with a pointy bit on the end! -
wow, lots of people from uk! That's good. If I should ever come down south I'll give you guys a shout. Thanks to all for the kind welcome!!
-
Yeah, I know the word kaizen from my business studies in school. Never really thought about its MA application. Nice story!
-
Wow that is much more formal than what I am used to. We just bow to the teacher and get started. we also bow at the end of the class but that's all.

Unless you're either Vin Diesil or Chuck Norris

I do karate and got 12. Lmao, I worked in a kitchen so when I had my hands full I would use high kicks to close the cupboards!

This sounds so much fun. It's a shame there isn't anywhere like that round here. The martial arts scene isn't exactly huge in north east England -
https://www.youtube.com type in nunchucks / nunchaku and see what comes up If you find anything would you mind posting a link here? I'm interested in nunchaku as well!

yeah, good luck on the training!

That's kinda weird for me, but it might just be because I've never kept the same belt for more than 8 months, but I've never really noticed fraying. plenty of loss of colour, but no frays. but I don't get my blackbelt till this December (hopefully!). Maybe it will happen a bit then

roll back and onto feet, like a handstand in reverse
-
When I learned this I actually did it without my hands. It took a lot longer to land, but whenever I put my hands behind it just didn't feel comfortable. I guess I'm just weird like that... Although in a fight it may not be amazingly practical... it does make a good party trick!

hypothetical weapons tournament, what would you use?
Scotty replied to alsey's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
It's gotta hit first though! -
Well although a soft style is a possibility, you could keep the karate going by explaining the situation to your instructor. So you can practise form without needing to go full out in sparring?
