  1. I practice KYOKUSHIN. We have over twenty Kata. As I understand it,we do Kata for these reasons: (NOT IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE): 1.Tradition 2.Art 3.Fun 4.Self training syllabus. Bunkai and Oyu, are fun and make training intresting but i belive are very much overrated.
  2. go to this forum and post your querry. it is a kyokushin forum http://www.kyokushin4life.com/
  3. welcome, what style do you practice?
  4. For us,all above mentioned and all Taikiyoku and Pinan in Kaiten. and 3 Sokugi Kata. Know all,and currently working on Sushiho.
  5. So you shouldn't train as realistically as the exercise allows? I'm not sure I agree with that philosophy. No you should train realisticly, training for point system is sport oriented which is fine if you are aware of the difference. reality is one thing sport is quite another and in that respect there is no difference between point and contact sport systems. They are tournament oriented, not reality based.
  6. And I say,it doesnt realy matter as you will not get hurt anyway you choose to guard yourself.
  7. I would love to see that portion of your test. After completing everything else, than attempting to go that long in continuous sparring. I did 20 minutes of continuous sparring for my Shodan test and I was shocked at how tiring it was, and we start our test with that sparring. I've been through Marine Corps bootcamp, so I understand that the human body and mind can continue a lot longer than most people give themselves credit for, but your test seems a little super human to me. I love to see it done. Have you read about some of the kyokushin kumites in testings? Sometimes 20 man, and the real crazy one is the 40 man, and reportedly, there is only one person who completed it. Here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyokushinkai#Multi-man_kumite I study Kyokushin. Shodan-10 man kumite Nidan-20 Sandan-30 Yondan-40 Godan-50 Everyone that holds the rank has done it. A few have even gone for http://www.australiankyokushin.com/kumite.shtml
  8. The standerd answer is :check them all out , give each about a month. decide for yourself which suits you best. assuming all schools have competant instructors, its more down to personal likings thah anything else. All styles incorperate roundhouse kicks, all can make you work up a sweat.

1.If your dojo rules alow, sit crossleged until you are in good condition to handle the position. 2.Sit and suffer. From expireance after sitting in this position for twenty minutes you will cease to feel pain. actualy ,you will cease to feel.
  10. For special things,go to a specialist. On a regular basis we have seminars with a 7th dan in Judo .He was the national coach and placed fourth in the 1972 Olympics. He tailors the lessons to Karate specifications, and guess what? everyone benefits from this. Cross training is great.
  11. well, i was taught that you do what Sensei tells you. So,do what your Sensei says,or leave.
  12. and what is the rate of broken noses in point system tournaments? actualy cauliflower ears are typical to judo, wrestling and mma,but then i thought that this was a karate forum,as in striking only. yes conditionong affects the muscles but they wrap the skeleton. for most point system practitioners a training session whith full contact practitioners is a real shock in defining strength and power of strikes and the ability to withstand them.
  13. actually, the rate of injurys in full contact tournaments islower than point systems. the reasons are 1.rules of engagment 2.body conditioning 1.no hands to face 2.acclimatizing the body to stress of multiple impacts at full power.
  14. try on this one http:// http://www.kyokushin4life.com/
  15. 1.In Israel holding a current CPR certificare is mandatory for all sports instructors. However your discription sounds more on the side of breathing problems. My advice:you personaly should get a CPR certificate and keep it update. From my experiance,MA is most beneficial for people with breathing problems. 2.OVERWEIGHT STUDENTS,if it is cleared by their physician then they should get all the encouragment possible.Trying to change is the first and hardest step. 3.I strongly advise you to substitute "ken tate" whith "ayubi tate" finger tip pushups.you may not sucseed in doing many in the beginning, but you will keep the integrity of your joints. I know this sounds extreme, but "ken tate" does not harden the knukles. ICHI GEKI;HISSATSU
  16. A few links to full contact no pading knockdown fights. for more just type -kyokushin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT8D2MOBl5s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjLI6wjRRGM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrG8SAcS3eI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53MpRTVX9vs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3DqMBrUBDk My point, to put things in to perspective. It takes a lot of training to be able to do that. padding is a must if you train daily, but their presence should not change youir atitude: ICHI GEKI;HISSATSU OSU
  17. Thumbs up on that. Can not beat that,Every individual performs on a different level, but all should give their 100%. OSU http://www.australiankyokushin.com/osu.shtml
  18. orionryu wrote: TOTALY AGREE that he made a mistake. Definitly do not agree with the censur as quoted above. Yes he probably feels remorse otherwise he would not have started this thread in the first place. I belive his question came from wanting to know how a martial art student should act after the incident. To my understanding your code of conduct is made up from your own background;the culture you live in;and as a martial art student the code of your own martial art and Dojo. There is no clear cut answer, the case has to be judged in the correct contex. Guide lines should be given ,in this case,by his Sensei. In some cultures a peace gift is a must, in others it might be construed as an insult. Bottom line: As your Sensei was present and you are his responcibility,go to him for advice.
  19. As among other qualifications I work with overweight people,my two cents worth are: 1.Consult your Dr. 2.Find a good dietician that is sport oriented. 3.Pick up a fun physical activity. 4.Stick to the plan. 5.Enjoy the journey. 6.A good rule of thumb is 500 grams weight lose a week, to ensure that you succeed in the long run. weight lose has less to do with losing weight;its all about changing your lifestyle and taking responsibilty. GOOD LUCK You have already taken the first step on the right way.
  20. Sorry to intrude on this discussion. To my hearing there is something a bit too harsh in stating that a yudansha of shodan level should take of his belt because of this incident. Shodan implies beginners status, and you censor him for acting like a beginner!? I understood that reflex took over judgment.A mistake in this case and I am shure he regrets it. Do not atribute SanDan or even GoDan charecteristics to a mere beginner.
  21. There was once upon a time one individual that trained in both styles. He then incorparated them with "full contact" training and introduced Knock Down tournaments. The style is Kyokushin, and the founder is Sosai Oyama.
  22. Just a reminder,BB is called Shodan which implies beginners level. After writing that, the ammount of time from day one to Shodan depends on the number of official training sessions taken. Whith us (Kyokushin)you can grade every consecutive 90 training sessions (Ippan Keiko). Grading for every Kyu , if you train every day would take 3 years to attain ShoDan level. Two ippan keiko sessions a day will shorten the time to tw0 years. I know of an individual that trained three sessions a day and it took him one year. For the average trainee, two to three Ippan Keiko a week, should take between five to eight years. That is in the style I practice, comparision to other styles is impposible as the sylabus and requierments are so different. comments on the time to attain any rank without the proper context are frivoulous.
  23. Forgot to add this on my previous post on the subject. Tamashiwara-5 official size boards with seiken, or seven whith shuto. All of above for shodan. 24. 1.kihon -every technique 30 times. takes about 40 minutes 2.Eido Keiko -lots of combinations. takes about 40 minutes 3.
