My price range is up to $100, yeah I know, but I'm poor.
-
Crap, I just checked, and it's way out of my price range.
-
I re-checked what's nearby, and there's a dojo for Kempo, and that looks right up my alley.

I'm not saying I reject violence in relation to martial arts; I just prefer not to leave lasting damage. I guess that's why I'm going to visit a nearby Aikido dojo, but I've heard it takes like decades before it can be used practically for defensive purposes.

It seems to be, based on my research, that the best arts which both meet my criteria and are easy to find, are some styles of both Kung fu and Karate.

I've recently re-evaluated my position on what type of practical martial art I want to pursue. I've always preferred using grappling arts, for 2 reasons; it doesn't rely on my own strength, and it's considered less violent. But in my past dojo experiences, grappling, that is, attacking joints, is more violent then striking, because with the former, it's much more likely to break bones and to cause serous injury. Whereas with strikes, except for styles like boxing, the strikes aren't meant to be about just bludgeoning your attacker to a pulp, just into submission. But ofcourse there's situations where grappling is the only recourse, so could anyone offer me some advice on what style that uses strikes in a non bludgeoning way, which also offers at least some grappling skills? Thanks.

Does anyone know what's the youngest age a student ever attained a 5fth degree black belt, in any art?
-
I know this is a juvenile question, but I just have to ask. I know there's no way to get a definitive answer, but who would you nominate as the greatest martial artist/fighter who actually existed? People who have reliable documented accounts of, say single handily defeating the largest amount of combatants who attacked at the same time. Yes I know that that virtually never works, but I'm willing to bet that is has to have happened some time in history. Try to keep the snickers and eye rolls to a minimum please.

About Shuai jiao...
circa02 posted a topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I have some questions regarding this obscure art. Does it teach to defend against multiple attackers? Against weapons? can it be an effective street art? Thanks. -
Is there any practical grappling defense arts that are actually very affective against multiple attackers?
-
No, not AT the dojo. I mean in real life; angry people scare me.

I have studied the martial arts first hand for about 5 years, and have read about it for many more. I wish to "get back in the game" some time in the future, but there's a big problem standing in my way; rage terrifies me. Any time I come across someone who is really mad at me, I freeze up, I can't even think well enough to move a muscle. How can I ever advance with this obstacle? My old teacher always used to tell me that fighting is 90 percent mental, and only 10 percent physical. I guess my problem is a testament to that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know of any realistic ninja movie, like the Shinobi no mono series? The next question is, are any of them available on netflix?

Movie requests

*slaps forhead* Well at least you know what I meant LOL -
Can anyone please point me too movies that contain the following: -A sword fight where the two opponents heave two swords each, as in two in each hand. -A good showing of the 3 Sectional Staff -A hand to hand fight that's realistic (I mean, as realistic as it can get in a martial arts movie) Thanks in advance. Mike

Curiosity.

I'm looking for any documentation on any actual REAL LIFE fights that involved multiple attackers against a lone individual, where the one man/woman came out the victor. I'm talking from ancient history to right now, as long as the story can be reasonably assumed to be the truth and without (much) exaggeration. Now as I've read posts here from you guys how some of you have taken on multiple opponents, for the sake of quantity, I request only submissions concerning fights where the one individual fought at least 6 adversaries. I would prefer first hand documentation, not like, "I heard this guy once saw this other guy..." Thanks in advance guys. Mike

Which "martial arts" movie do you think portrayed the fights most realistically? Like, no wires, people don't get kicked in the head 50 times and keep going, 1 guy against a group and just ONE bad guy attacks at a time ect...

Well I CAN wear my previous belt, but I AM new to this art do I really am a white belt, but that doesn't surprise me or bother me really. It's just the feeling like I don't know what's going on. True there are always similarities, but since my previous dojo was my only experience, I don't have much of a point of reference. Like everything here has a different name ect... Thanks everyone for your advice. Mike

Hi everyone. I just moved from Norwalk, CT to Vegas, and I'm having a little trouble adjusting to my new dojo. I was like within a year of my blackbelt back in Norwalk, but here I feel like I'm starting from scratch, like everything I've learned over the past 4 years has just went out the window because, as with all schools I do realize, this is totally different then what I'm used too. Does anyone get what I'm trying to say? Anyone have any advice from past experience? Mike

Hi guys, I'm moving to the Las Vegas area in less then a month and I would like some help in trying to find a good dojo. for the last 4 years I've been taking Vee Jitsu Arnis Te, which is an amalgamation of Jiu Jitsu, Arnis, karate, Aikido and kickboxing, among other arts. I would like to find a dojo that teaches a full curriculum, as in a complete teaching of unarmed and armed combat. grappling and strikes are a requisite, and the more weapons taught the better I would be very thankful for any information.

I've been going to my dojo for about 4 years and my stamina pretty much remains terrible. I;m starting to get discourage dispute my knowing that that I'm not their to compete with others, but to better myself, and that despite my troubles I'm still going and learning, albeit more slowly then the the average person. I mean I see all my classmates lasting much longer the me when sparring, it's really an emotional downer. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

searcher Tai chi does use the double edged sword and so does wushu in some of their forms. Good luck in your training with the double edged sword it is extremely difficult to use. Aha! Someone who has the kind of information I want! Please Tell me more Searcher, i.e. Could you give me more information or could you direct me to more information on the Tia Chi and the Wushu methods of double edged swords? Thanks ahead of time, Mike.

I want to rent a few martial arts movies but, me not being an expert on that genre, I would like some help, say, some recommendations. Let me give you guys a little personal taste info to help you out: My favorite MA movies include Bloodmoon with Gary Daniels, Drive with Mark Dacascos, and Drunken master 2 with Jackie Chan. I don't like "fire-fu" very much, so please don't recommend any "flying" movies. And I'd prefer not to watch a movie where there are like 20 guys fighting against the hero, and they go at him one at a time while the rest just jump around Also if anyone can point out any really spectacular sword fighting or other weapons heavy film, I'd be greatful. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. _________________ My name is Mike and I practice Vee Gee Tzu Arnis under Sensei Besnick Bajra. And I'm an acholholic...er, sorry, wrong forum... Can anyone give me any info on the style of sword fighting used in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Specifically the use of the Green Destiny?
