  1. Thats the sort of thing im looking for. Punching drills, kicking drills, footwork drills, mixtures of all of these. I know I could just hammer out some kata for a good mix of all of these (granted, I only really know Kihon Gata and Pinan Nidan, but technique wise thats as much as I need to know right now, but the more the better, I like to learn all the time, stay a step ahead of the game) Punchbag drills like your bushido are definatly useful, because my punchbag just swings Idle at the moment for the lack of good drills to perform. Of course im not looking for the mystical "do this every day and youll be a master" sort of thing, Theres no encompassing drill that makes you great at everything. Just something that will give me some solid foundation, get my speed, endurance and power up.

Ive asked before about Punch bag drills, But I guess I didnt really explain what I wanted that well Having plenty of free time at the moment and with the weather cooling off, I figured I best get back into training at home pronto. And with the need of some good drills to do to get me focused, Ive sat down and tried to put some together... For example, Stand in horse stance infront of the punch bag, and punch left and right chudan zuki alternativly. Then working onto punching left to the head, then right to the stomach and then left to the stomach then alteranting this to right left right, and doing it with a 3 beat rythmn increasing them tempo to get some speed training going. Others ive thought up is just standing in horse stance or niahanchi dachi and performing a left right alternative back fist strike, or knife hand strike. As for kicking, standing in left fighting stance and doing Maegeri then after so many swapping stance and doing some more on that side. Then repeat with mawashigeri on both sides. Or for something more challenging I thought up kicking mawashigeri at all three levels sucsessivly with or without putting your foot down again. But none beat the first 3 beat one, thats a drill you can do and increase your tempo and feel it working when you get into it. Does anyone have similar drills they perform or can think up to do on a punch bag, or perhaps from one end of the garden to the other (we do such combonations techniques at the club, from one end of the hall to the other) Thanks
  3. Well, For karate I have two sessions. Two hours on a friday, and another two hours on a sunday, where aikido I just have the one session on a monday. So ill most likly be concentraing more on training my karate supplimenting it with Aikido so that 'technically' I end up with a mix heavy on striking complimented with grappling and body movement. From an true aikidoka veiw though, you could argue that having the grappling and pins should come first and compliment it with strikes (I was told that aikido uses atemi to confuse the attacker as to perform technique eaiser) But in my veiw, I think neither should suppliment the other, That I should try and train my Karate with Aikido principles and my Aikido with Karate principles, get the best of both worlds, Like incorporating the body movement from aikido into karate, and the strikes from karate into aikido, something along those lines. With me being novice in both arts, I guess I have alot of time to see how I can intergrate to the two. Bluetulipx, I live in Belper, practicing my Wado-Ryu at a local club, and my Aikido at Milford under Rafe Hock 1st Dan (?)
  4. After tonight, I seem pretty certain that I should go right in a practice both. My sensei is obviously bias'd to his opinion because he studys aikido, but he applys all he's learnt to the lessons he teaches us, about body movement and irimi. most of the 2nd session stuff we do (the 2nd hour of our training dedicated mainly to self defence/sparring/extra study) mostly aikido techniques when it comes to self defence. inculuding tonight, doing some wrist grab defences, Nikkyo I think it was. Not Ikkyo, since apparently that hurts more anyway, after speaking to sensei, hes going to give me a lift with the brownbelt to the aikido club, he said its pretty small and only 12 or so people tend to train there. Anyway, I expect ill keep going and get into both arts, as bushido_man96 said, the combonation should make me pretty rounded if I learn both well.
  5. Hmm, Well next Wado-Ryu session I have ill have a chat with my Sensei about coming to Aikido, to take part, If not just watch for a while. He trains at the same Aikido club so he will have a good idea on weather or not I should really start mixing styles already. But im sure with him Practicing Wado and Aikido, and likes to boast the benifits of both all the time, Im sure he will be very intrested in me wanting to mix Wado with Aikido.
  6. Ive been practicing Wado-Ryu Karate for about too months now, passing my 9th kyu (red belt) last week. But just last night we had a group of Aikidoka giving us a demonstation of their art since they have a club about 10min away. We had this demo mainly because most of the body shifting and body movement is similar to what we do in Wado and also our sensei trains in Aikido along with another of out brown belts I was thinking if it would be good to train in both styles, Wado-Ryu and Aikido at such an early time. On one hand im thinking starting to styles so early will let me get better at both, coparing and sharing techniques, (Such as Aikido having a lack of strikes and more escapes etc, and wado being somewhat the reverse) But on the other hand im thinking it would be a bad thing because It could get complicated or something like that. But both styles seem to compliment each other alot, Wado being the Way of Peace, And Aikido being the Harmonising way and such, Complimentary in their names, But also in their techniques, absorbing moves and using body shifting. Opinions please?

From what I know (I dont really keep up on mac's, And ill probably loose some of you here) Is that Macintosh has started to use Intel Processors in their mac's rather than their own Processors (G5 etc?) It basically boils down to the architechture the processor uses The G5 using apples own architecture and Intel using x86 and its newer 64bit counterparts I think its all about Hardware compatability, if you tryed to install Windows on a G5 Mac youd have a hell of a problem, and you'd have to do some tricks to get linux on it. But on these new Intel boxes, It'd be plenty easier, as well as to impliment some combatability with windows code. I myself have never used a Mac, I just found them too tacky for some reason, I run a £1700 home built rig on Windows X64 Pro, I also have a Pentium 3 rig with Damn Small Linux running as a webserver, and a Pentium Celeron as my Brothers/Mothers Desktop. If your up on these things and want my main rigs specs, here they are: AMD 64bit 4000+ 1gB of DDR400 (Single Channel) Geforce 7800 GTX 256mb Audidgy 2 Sound card 250gB S-ATA Harddisk and alittle more, all on a Nforce4 DFI Lanparty Motherboard

I have and have had lots of lower back pain due to weight training, Getting alittle too overconfident on the back extensions when I was a lifting newbie, still causing me alot of hassle to this day, but Deadlifts and good mornings on a light weight will do wonder, Best bet is to go to the doctors as soon as possible and just get them to give it a once over, The GP basically said to me that staying active and giving my back some work is the best way, and to just grunt out the pain else It'll never get better Without weights I'd suggest Pressups, chrunches and various differnt types of Pullup's if you have a bar or a beam thats sturdy enough to take your body weight. Theres also numerous items around the house you can improvise with, Such as bags of sugar etc. experiemnt alittle But if you can get into a gym with the basics like dumbbells and barbells all the better, The upperback is a great area to train to bring out that V shape too apparently.

Congratulations, I've been blessed with a...somewhat wide girth, So trying to distinguish muscle gain aside my slowly shrinking waist gets abit confusing, But I tend to just keep putting muscle on. Its such a happy feeling when you notice something like your measurements staying the same and your weight going up, When I started training I was 182lbs now im hovering around 202lbs. Hopefully my gains are going to pick up alittle more now If swapped my training program around for compound exercises rater than isolation ones. Sometimes I envy you "stringbeaners" being so thin and not putting on so much all the time, Now I dont envy you and I love the fact that I pile it on

We use mostly Japanese terminology in our dojo since its the universal language, with what some of your are saying about it being universal across countrys too, we have two polish guys train with us too. They have a fairly ok grasp of english, but Im guessing it makes it easier for them to explain things in Japanese terms If they cant work out the english word for a lunge punch etc. Our Syllabus books have all the techniques in Japanese too, But these a glossary at the back of the book to help with anything you might not know. I also think it helps with the kids to learn the Japanese too, Not only is it one of this almost mystical languages which helps them learn and remember it for the "coolness" factor I guess you could call it, It also allows more association, I can see a young child getting confused if you use the word, Jab one day and Junzuki the next

    Nagashizuki is a Sweeping Block I dont know what Zenshin is but Zanshin is a state of mind where you are fully aware Mawashi Geri Is a roundhouse kick Sokuto Geri is a kick with the edge of your foot
  14. Nicknames dont really tend to stick with me, While I was an army cadet as was known as Jonesy. I was know an Jesus for a while too when I grew my hair, But that was a one off occurence since I only grew my hair to see what it was like (Always had a shaven head since birth)
  15. A good Kata to do for Wado is Rohai, not alot of people do it so the judges tend to be impressed when they see it, (This is if everyone doesnt get the same idea and do it as well )
