  1. Professional streetfighter. I know one or two good ones. They're not safe people.
  2. To be honest any art where a large part of training is hitting people and getting hit is going to have side effects. Ones where you're training to desensitize yourself will have more. Repeatedly hitting someone's shin with yours may well be an effective way to train, but it isn't healthy.
  3. Another neat trick is to time it and then just gently sweep their legs away. The benefit is supposed to be that it makes you unpredictable and mobile, personally I'd just prefer to keep my weight on the balls of my feet instead.
  4. I use both as appropriate, doesn't really bother me. I switch stance a lot as well, although I do tend to use my right side no matter what stance I'm in.
  5. Our belt system used to have plain black, with first dan coming a year later. They've changed it now, but yes, in some systems you can have a black belt without a dan rank.
  6. If you have insurance then you'll probably be okay, it should cover you for things like this even when someone does sue. The problem comes in with it not being an official club. Everyone should be covered for sparring, but you might want to make sure that you have one person who's got instructor's insurance at each session, just to make sure it doesn't get out of hand. I'd imagine though that if you join a sparring club and then try to sue for injuries you'd be laughed out of court.
  7. I believe kickboxing started in France, boxe francoise as it was called originally, but I could be wrong.
  8. Definitely, in fact if they're not breathing then CPR wouldn't be a bad idea, but definitely call an ambulance, then the cops, then get out of there before they turn up.
  9. I think you'll find that punching from the waist in that case makes no difference, its the target that matters, and a bodypunch is just as effective as punching from the waist for a kidney punch.
  10. Clavicle, going for the eyes can be a mistake, eyes tend to draw you in, stopping your from seeing the foot coming up to your knee.
  11. A firearm is the best weapon for self offense. Its not a defensive weapon. A defensive weapon is one designed to remove any threat to your person with minimal injury to all parties. A firearm is designed to put lumps of lead into people very fast.
  12. Tourism isn't really the main income of the Swiss. A lot of the money in the country (which incidentally has 51% tax rates and is the most expensive place in the world to live) comes from the banks. Swiss banks are well known as some of the most secure and secretive in the world, so guess where all the corrupt politicians, drug dealers, and so on store their cash. Hate to say it, but I have my doubts that friendly fire casualties are due to trying to keep the bombing close to the battlefront. More likely to do with plain stupidity in too many cases. So England is...uh...America would be...hmm...France, Germany, Ah. Seems that most of the well developed countries don't really have defined religions. You don't see the people being shot with American made weapons in deep cellars. You don't see the organisations funded by American companies, provided with American arms. You don't see the people starving in the streets of America. Whether the world would be a better or worse place is irrelevant. The world is as it is, until you can change it, live with it. Quick note. In working on its missile defense shield America completely ignored every single other country in the world, including its allies. Interesting fact. Under current laws it is possible to 'trade' pollution allowances with other countries. America does this a lot. On top of this you'll find that most countries have managed to reduce pollution since twenty years ago, how come America finds it so difficult to do so? I don't really want to argue this one, but okay. Admittedly America isn't too bad when it comes to racism. At least in most areas. And it does seem to be improving as well, however saying that you are the least racist nation you will find, and that people don't kill each other because of race in America is just wrong. Incidentally I like America, same as I like England. I can still see and acknowledge the problems though.
  13. Definitely side-kick, the most powerful technique that the human body is capable of delivering without spinning or leaving the ground.
  14. While pulling someone onto a punch may seem effective, it does take up both of your hands, and leaves theirs free. As for using the pulling back of one arm to elbow someone behind you, if someone's got that close and they've got any intelligence at all they'll already have hit you if they're going to, and if they're just standing around then they might decide to hit you after you elbow them in the stomach.
  15. Why exactly was he taking bouncers?
  16. I've seen stage magicians do amazing things as well, doesn't mean they can actually do magic. Until I have someone successfully use Ki on me (people have tried, but never succeeded) I'm gonna stay sceptical.
  17. Actually watches with glowing hands used to contain radium, I'm sure if they still do though. I'd imagine the 20% are ones which people just don't confess to, or which they make particularly well.
  18. Yep, the crops are completely undamaged, apart from being flattened. I never trust documented incidents of radiation and electromagnetic field phenomena for the simple fact that the people who test them usually believe in aliens in the first place. Do you know how easy it is to fake something like that when you're holding the equipment. And why would aliens bother making patterns in corn? I mean please, come on.
  19. Depends on the kick, a high side kick or a high swing kick is never really going to help you, not only are they slower to perform but the height pulls a lot of your bodyweight from the kick. A crescent kick though, if timed and performed correctly, or a downwards kick (note: our downwards kicks are aimed across the chest, not for the shoulders or head) or a twisting kick can be devastating. Part of their effect is that if there are any other people considering attacking you they'll usually decide to put it off after you've just torn their mates pectorals off their chest with a good downwards kick.
  20. I would have thought a throw would be more likely to kill, hurling someone through the air as opposed to simply hitting them. Ah well.
  21. Why are you not encouraged to use them? A good solid strike can end a fight just as quickly as any lock, pin, throw, whatever. And it also has the advantage that if you do knock them out it'll scramble their memory, making it somewhat harder for them to testify.
  22. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that there wasn't much striking in aikido. How do you handle an attack from two or three people simultaneously in that case? I'd have to say that my art would be as effective as any, we train with two on one, three on one, and many variations, including using one of the people as a shield to keep the other two away.
  23. Neither. Its an accident, accidents happen, although I would feel slightly guilty about not blocking fast enough.
  24. Get some woggles (those large foam stick things you find in swimming pools) or blockers. Attack the kids with them and tell them to block or dodge.
  25. Great, am I the only one who likes cooking and knows how to cook? I cook every chance I get, from cordon bleu stuff like lobster, to my favourite, large chunks of very rare steak.
