Boys, boys, boys; If women want to say their stronger, let them, coz we gonna have serious problems when they stop cooking our food, washing our clothes and rocking the bed. No, seriously, if you take a male and female of same size and height, the man has more natural physical strength. But depending on their abilities in the martial arts, a women could easily beat up a man. I wouldn't mind getting beat up by a woman. It'd be real fun!

In answer, as to why muslims pray facing the ka'ba, it is because God, through Muhammed, commanded us to do so. It also acts as a focal point for prayer. Otherwise, people would be praying in all directions (How would a mosque be organised, if people could pray anywhere). Why then, do Christians need to go to Church, why do Jews need to go to the synagogue, if what you say about bowing in a dojo is true? Previously, muslims had to face the mosque in Jerusalem for prayers, as done by Muhammed (pbuh) himself. However, following a revelation, we were asked to face the ka'bah (which wasn't placed there by Muhammed). Thus, when muslims pray, we are all together, we are all equal, we all face the same direction in our prayer to God. (Other forms of prayer don't need to be done facing the Ka'bah i.e. reciting Qur'an, du'ah (private prayer to God)) I admit that I only know the basics of Islam, yet if you have more questions as to the why of Islam? You can go to a lot of Islamic sites and find out.

Like TKD McGee said: There are two types of bowing: 1 - is to simply show respect/greeting to your opponent/friend/business partner or person in training 2 - an act of reverence to some higher authority i.e. God And by the way, Muslims bow to the same God Christians and Jews believe in! We bow to God, a.k.a. Allah, because he is our creator, sustainer and to Him all must return.(Just like Christians and Jews)

Pardon my French, but the law here is very frustrating! Innocent people are always getting in trouble for beaing the hell out of a drug dealer, or mugger or whatever kind of criminal he/she is! My real advice would be to try and back out, otherwise block a few attempts and if they continue then hit back - but make sure you really do end the fight! No point getting in trouble for a single punch, teach the bastar* a lesson!

IN london, England you've got to be really carefull about how you fight someone in case it goes to the courts, where almost 9 times out of 10 it's the victim who ends up in trouble for beating up the attacker. The law states that you can only use as much force as need to defend yourself. But that means nothing! To me, if someone tried it on, I'd try and back out or run. Or if I'm really pissed off, I'd just beat the **** out of him and then run!!

I'm a keen martial artist. I practise Wing Chun, Thai Boxing and Boxing. I want to know, why in the Wing Chun organisation can't I join the Fight Club tournaments. I know that it's meant to be for self-defense, and shouldn't be seen as a sport. But Wing Tsun (WT) are allowed to take part in Fight Club i.e. challenging someone of the same grade as you to a fight - although you wear headguards and all the rest! What politics is behind Wing Chun practitioners not being allowed to have fight club? Or is it just my Wing Chun organisation? (which is run my Master James Sinclair- who incidently use to have fight club fights himself, against other martial arts!!!)

Dating "in-school"

NO, I'm just kidding. It's impossible to prevent emotions and feelings for a girl or boy to arise, especially if they start asking you for help and whether you want to do some ''extra training''. My advice is, to be on a level with them, yet don't take things personally. And always be clear about your goals and aims in practising that Martial Art. If you really fancy that girl/boy, and you were really meant to be together, trust me it'll happen without your interference. 'Good things come to those who wait.' 'Patience has its virtues.' -

Fat that refuses to leave!
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dr replied to karatekid1975's topic in Health and Fitness
Damn, that KickChick is smart. She knows a lot about dieting etc. But here's one story I got: My brother used to weigh 14+ stones. He was dying to lose fat around the waste, coz summertime was comin' and all. So, he went on a real strict diet. This meant, no carbohydrates i.e. no potatoes, pasta, crisps, chocolates, cakes, eggs etcc. For breakfast, he used to have fruit juice and a banana (or any fruit) For Lunch, just a sandwich, with lots of salad, and fruit and chicken if he was really hungry. For dinner, he had roast chicken or grilled fish but no red meat. if he was still hungry he'd have a lot of salad, or fruit (try different fruits). He did all this (with some exercise, not much), for 6 weeks and he now weighs 11.5 stones (that's a huge loss). He's lost 2 inches around the waste. So, although what KickChick said, is probably better for you, that's a quick yet difficult way to lose some weight. Oh, and by the way, boys love girls that got some muscle on them. It means they can hide behind them in confrontations. -
Maverick, I understand your frustration and eagerness to learn a martial arts which, not only looks good, but would be Effective. However, the two don't really go together, unless you wish to fight in the ring. I'm from London, there are always street fights going and the area I live in can be termed 'a ghetto'. However, we have no guns! Weopon wise, people use knives, poles, bats, and sometimes even swords. I am not the type to start trouble, yet in this area, there are always those who aim to start trouble with you. The point I'm making is, forget the flashy stuff! I use to do Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, it had hectic moves, i.e. spinning heel kick etc. But I could never use it on the street, especially when mans had weopons. So, I now do Muay Thai, with some Brazilian Jujitsu, and Wing Chun. Although Muay Thai is basic, it uses natural movements and I feel more comfortable using it on the street, it's more instinctive. However, Wing Chun is a compromise between the flashy stuff and effective fighting. The moves begin very simple, yet become more advanced and interesting as you go along. I've become addicted to Wing Chun. In the Long Run, if you train properly, you're instinctive nature can be attuned to Wing Chun, which I think is more lethal in a fight. So: my advice would be to continue with Thai Boxing, in terms of conditioning, stamina work and sparrring Yet, go for it and learn Wing Chun. You'll definitely be able to use it on the street, if you practise a lot, and it will end fights for you quickly.

BRUCE LEE
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dr replied to TigerKorea's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There was no need to be quite so offensive, those of you that have replied to TigerKorea's inappropriate message. Don't get me wrong, I felt a surge of contempt towards him, yet a good martial artist doesn't let anger control his actions or speech. TigerKorea obviously was speaking in an ignorant, abusive manner, so to reply back to him in the same way only put you on his level. Some of the black belts spoke wisely and answered with experience and coolness, thus degrading TigerKorea without degrading themselves. By replying so, he would have something to think about, not bitter thoughts for the rest of you. Anyway, I totally disagree with him. To TigerKorea I say: Bruce Lee was great, yes, but how would we know him to be the greatest. Further, UFC fighters are incredibly brave to put their lives on the line and fight in such circumstances (I have tried). And Americans are simply innovative. Only by trial and error, by creative innovation can a people truly further themselves. (how do you think the chinese monks learnt? They didn't simply just know). I hope none of you have been offended by my comments, but always remain cool in such frustrating circumstances. The real man, is not the strongest of you, but the one who can control himself when in anger. - Prophet Muhammed -
Sorry, but you can hardly call Tyson little!! I'm not sure if anyone is aware, but they asked Tyson if he would be willing to fight in UFC (ultimate fightin championship). He replied no immediately, because he said he only knows how to use his hands in a proper fight, (apart from his teeth), and that a UFC fighter, like 'TITO ORTIZ', who knows how to punch, kick, wrestle, use submission moves, and take a good beating (besides being hench), would be able to beat him. Regrettably, I don't really know the Hapkido style, therefore I can't really comment on Tyson vs Hapkido. But I reckon a large, strong, professional Hapkido student could probably beat Tyson in the ring, obviously because Tyson is limited to rules. But on the street, there are no rules, and Tyson would simply smother the other guy and bite him and land a barrel of punches. On the street, my money is on Tyson!!

HI everyone, Thank you for replying so soon to my question. I joined this forum in order to learn from many of you, who are involved in various types of martial arts. I am 16 years old, and live in London. I have been enchanted by martial arts all my life and thus practise often. I have studied (practised) various types of martial arts. These include, T'ai Chi, Wing Chun, Thai Boxing, Boxing, Brazilian Jujitsu and Northern style Shaolin Kung Fu ('Mizong'). I am most definitely not a great, experienced martial artist but I have only touched on these various styles. Having practised all of them for a certain amount of time, I have remained with Wing Chun, Thai Boxing, Boxing and Shaolin Kung Fu. My wish is to learn as many martial arts as I can upto a very high degree, (I know it'll take years and years, but I ain't going anywhere soon!) Anyway, that's enough about me, if you have any questions or are curious about any of the styles I have tried, then post a thread and I'll try and get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you.
