I'm reading the Hannial Lecter omnibus I had for Christmas. I've done Red Dragon and have just started Silence of the Lambs. Scary stuff! ZeRo, I'm also a big Lorenzo Carcaterra fan, having just read Gansters. Good book, but not as good as Sleepers. I'm also reading a Database Systems book, but that aint no fun!

It has to search through more stuff to find what it wants, hence the slower access time. Its like looking for a book in a library, the more books there are, the longer it takes

Basically, last man (or girl) standing wins. No gloves of any kind, although a chest guard or a cup is allowed.

Sean Connery and Nelson Mandela both have honorary Dan Grades in Kyokushinkai too. Mohammed Ali has practiced it as well

A while ago I was in a demo kicking Mawashi geris over a chair. I had meesed it up, and ending up smacking my leg full force on the chair. That was about 2 months ago and since then, after the brusing and swelling went down (that took three weeks) I've had a lump on the bone where I took the whack. Its still sore, and slighty bruised. But now its starting to bug me. Anybody have any idea what the heck it is, or how I can get rid of it? thnx

I don't eat fatty steaks for breakfast. I don't fry my food, like the diet says to, I grill or steam it. I'm aware of the possible heart realted risks of the diet, but bear in mind that exersize keeps your heart healthy, and I do plenty of that Some of the information given on the diet is slighty irresponsible, like they don't tell you that you'll feel awful for the first few days! Or that fat in large amounts is bad for you, no matter what diet your on. I think if the Atkins type diet is combined with common sense and exersize, its not a bad thing to be on

If I'm not mistaken, on the Atkins low carb diet, you can eat only 6 grams of carbs per day in the first week, and 20 grams a day after that. i don't know what one you're following, but it should be a similar thing. No sugar, fruit, caffine, regular fizzy drinks, skimmed milk etc. Any of that sugar free stuff is fine too.You can eat any meat or fish, including stuff like sausages, beef etc. For breakfast I used to eat, eggs or an cheese omelette, bacon, sausages and sometimes a few mushrooms (out of my carb allowance) and a decaff coffee with sweeteners. Then i'd have meat/fish and salad. I used to add some crispy bacon and grated cheese to it, to liven it up a bit. You can have sugar free Jelly and cream for dessert, or any sugar free dessert that is carb free. Same sort ofthing for my evening meal too. If you buy soya flour, you can make things like pancakes, and bread etc, so long as the recipe has no carbs in it, you'll be Ok with it

Apparently the Bull's were already on their way to the slaughter house before Sosai fought them. As far as I know, no organisation actually asked him to stop, animal rights weren't as much of a concern in those days as they are now.

I've been on one of the diets before, and although I lost nearly half a stone in a week, i felt sick and faint a lot. When I stopped the diet, the sickness stopped too. Are those low carb diets much use to the martial artist, or was this just a fluke for me?

Bannana's are great to eat van_damme, they've got lots of carbohydrate in them for energy Sempai always tells us to scoff them before gradings etc. KickChick, you obviously know a lot on this topic. What are the best things to eat in the run up to a tournament, etc? I have one a week tomorrow and I don't feel anywhere near in shape enough, mostly due to what I eat I think. I drink plenty of water at least!

I love chinese food. My fav's are sweet and sour chicken, Chow Mein and Egg Foo Yung. And prawn crackers of course They're a chinese resturant near me that does an all-you-can-eat buffet for £13! I don't go very often, otherwise I'd weight about 20 stone!

No prob Saifights, I'm from Cardiff, UK 21 and am a 7th Kyu (2nd blue belt) in Kyokushinkai Karate. I especially enjoy doing sparring and kata's Blimey Mel, how many forums are you on!?
-
Kyokushinkai is a mix of Shotokan, goju ryu and various other styles, such as Muay Thai etc. Most of the Kata's come straight from Shotokan. In the 100 man Kumite, you have to fight 100 people, you don't have to win every fight, although the rule of thumb is its quicker to knock them out, that way you are more likely to complete the kumite. You can't lose, or get knocked down for more than five seconds or its over.

The hardest technique's I find are tobi ni dan geri and ushiro mawashi geri. I usually end up flat on my back after doing a few of these!
