  1. flexability is very important have you ever heard of Bill "Superfoot" Wallace. He was National kickboxing champion a while ago. I did a seminar with him last year, he is 60 years old with an artificial hip and knee, yet he still can kick 60mph. It was amazing, you actually missed it if you blinked. Anyways, he has a book out...not sure what it is called, but half the seminar was about streching and what you can do to increase flexability in a way that will make you faster. Google him and i am sure you'll find the book.
  2. Anything can become fun if you make it a contest. For exaple, if you split the kids into two lines facing eachother and have them just do basics, only they need to try to be faster, or stronger, or kick higher then the group across from them, and the slower side does push-ups or something, it is much more fun then just doing basics normaly. Sensei says is also a favorite. (just like simon says) Obstical courses are also fun.
  3. We do a lot a bunkai in our dojo but we do more then just that we also do sparring of sorts were we are supposed to use a certain bunkai or variation. We do a lot of bunkai variations that are still the same movements only slightly different and in a different context. My sensei works hard to make sure we see how kata can be applied to real fighting.

    Kiai!

their is this one girl in my dojo who i always partner with, and she has this really high pitched kiai. It's like super-sonic, it actually hurts to hear when you close to her. And during my black belt exam, i kiaied realy well and loud and hard, after like a half an hour, i was already so tired (this was a really intense test) and my voice hurt that my kiais started sounding really bad and sort of strained...it sounded like i was dying, it was embarrasing but under the surcumstances everyone understood.
  6. SEIPAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay
  7. this reminds me of a story it was at my Jr. Shodan exam, it was just me and a guy testing for nidan. We each had to spar every other blackbelt their, he went first. He was fighting a big guy, around 6'5. The guy sweeped him and then went to pin him, and i'm not quite sure what happened, but the next thing i know the guy i'm testing with screams out in pain. He tried to keep fighting but he could barely stand. So he quits, has to go sit down with ice. And it's my turn. And me, this scrawny little teen-age girl has to go fight the big scary black belt (who is actually really nice) who just busted a few of a guys ribs. I just sat their hoping i wouldn't get broken in half too... but i passed, and so did broken ribs man just because he tried to hard and really deserved it.
  8. Hello, I do Goju Ryu and i was wondering what the kada/belt system was for other schools in my style. I mean, at what belts do you learn what kadas? In my school, i varries between age-groups, but if your above 14; (bare with my spelling) White belts do San Dan Gi kada's 10th-geikie sai di ichi 9th- di ni 8th-still di ni 7th-4th-saifa 3rd-2nd-siayunchin 1st-shesoshin I am more curious about the black belt part of it though for jr. blackbelts, i know you learn sanseiru and seipai, but i am not sure and i highly doubt you learn karumfa when you still a jr. shodan. But then, if you have been a Jr for at least 4 years, when you turn 18, you test for nidan instead of shodan. my explination of how my school works may be a litle confusing...but i am really just curious how other schools do it, so please share!
