  1. Just out of curiousity, what kata does everyone know?I'll start: Kihon I-V Naifanchi I-III Seisan Pinan I-III Tensho
  2. Remember that blur the fighters in DBZ got when moving at superspeed? My friend apparently moves that fast http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c47/armanox/Shitagain.jpg And it's not fast enough to save him. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c47/armanox/ThrowingTim.jpg Nor the other guy. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c47/armanox/FLY.jpg
  3. When someone extend their hand for a handshake and you block + parry it.
  4. Ahh..ok.....didn't think of that possiblity....Sorry....
  5. The sword should only wobble if your applying too much force.
  6. Quite entertaining
  7. Mine has a few.... Whenever someone mentions something from a movie(or just the little ones for "someone")"Ahh, the movies...". For when someone's punching or blocking too high "If the jolly green giant attacks you you've better off running" For when people reach to in a block "If you have to reach to block it then it doesn't need to be blocked." He also refers to the friend I go with and myself as the two turkeys, and occasionally me as the raging maniac.
  8. Yup, got one myspace.com/armanox
  9. I agree - never too old for video games Halo Star Wars Battlefront Thief: The Dark Project Diablo I/II WarCraft II StarCraft Neverwinter Nights Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn Final Fantasy Tactics Dragon Warrior I-IV, VI, VIII I guess it's more computer games with me though
  10. I wouldn't mind meeting Sohan or someone that spread in styles either, but it would be nice if I could meet some of the members in the Baltimore area.
  11. I know a little Iai, due to my classmates who take Iaido under Doctor William Dvorine at the Baltimore Judo Club. I practice using two bokkens, a katana length and a kodachi length, and would have hurt myself had it been with an iaito at times.
  12. Ahh, eku bo, I wish that I knew how to use it. My instructor learned how last time he was in Okinawa, but wants to learn more before teaching others.
  13. I've sparred with Jo, Bo, Bokken(Both Katana length and Kodachi length together), Sai, and Escrima. My katana length bokken broke in a strike, and while holding them with the broken one, used the kodachi length one to make a strike. But I must say that weapon sparring hurts.
  14. Bo was developed as a common weapon. All of the Jo kata I've seen is based on sword defense, which is sorta fun, being able to use Jodo to beat Kenjustu.......

    The Tekkis

I would also point at that it's a good conditioning kata, and for verification of stances. http://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/023/eng/011/003/b_011e.wvx

    The Tekkis

Looking at the pic for the first kata it is definatly a variant of Naihanchi Shodan, a kata common to all Okinawan based karate and Shotokan. Given the counting, I would say the next two (links broken) are Nidan and Sandan respectively. The application is quite simple and effective, but hard to explain w/o a visual. I can try to make one.

    Sweeps

Yeah - don't. Anytime anyone tries a sweep against me they fail miserably, because it's too easy to either dodge or counter. A swift kick to the knee achieves the same effect.
  18. Wow.......In Shorin Ryu there are no testing fees. For that matter, the only things that my instructor had to pay for was his teaching certification ($200) and his 7th dan, both issued by Katsuya Miyahara
  19. That reflects poorly on the school. For Shorin Ryu Karatedo I can speak that the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Karatedo Association does not permit dan ranks under the age of 18.
