  1. Well after another few months I'm back to the forums. I've been so busy with moving out and getting things prepped for my wedding next April. I also haven't been training much in the Martial Arts as I've been currently competing with pistol shooting. Most of my spare time is going into training for that. How has everyone been? Pete
  2. When I was younger I read all his books. He was my hero. LOL I must have read Secrets of the Ninja about 100 times.
  3. If the student comes from a similiar system he or she is usually allowed to maintain the belt they earned in their other style. However, in order to advance they need to be at the same level of students within the school. THey need to know all the forms etc. etc. etc.
  4. It all depends on the person. The longer is usually the better.
  5. Bruce changed things in many ways for us. Was he the greatest Martial Artist ever? Who knows??? people will debate this as long as his name is still be spoken.
  6. I believe you can learn a few things in a few weeks but to be really effective it takes time. In a few weeks you could learn enough to defend yourself against an unskilled opponent but to do the same against a skilled opponent would take years.
  7. The Samurai sword is my favorite Martial Arts weapon. My favorite weapon altogether is a handgun. Pete
  8. Welcome to the forums.
  9. You need to explain to your parents that Karate is what "YOU" want to do and that isn't the reason you are sick. Being barefoot has nothing to do with catching a cold.
  10. Ninja did wear stealth uniforms but they were not black. Solid black casts shadows on itself which is what you want to avoid. They usually wore a more olive drab color. This would provide stealth in different situations. When I was younger I always wanted a red ninja uniform cause I thought it was "cool" but I could never find one. But, if I ever got one I don't know how it would work for a stealth mission. LOL
  11. Bruce was more of a fighter than Jackie Chan. My vote is for Bruce.
  12. If you're doing an open form then you want something fast. Usually techno or dance music is best. Louie Devito dance CD has some good stuff on it.
  13. Basically a school that the instructor is either not skilled or just wants to make a fast buck and doesn't care much about his students progression.
  14. Welcome to the forums. Bring your buddies along we always love new members. Pete
  15. Welcome to the forums. Pete
  16. I love shooting. I'm actually doing competive pistol shooting at my range. Other than that I enjoy modifying cars, and being with my fiance.
  17. I think it is great that people post their accomplishments here. Getting your next rank is a big step esp. in the lower ranks. Getting encouragement from others helps motivate people. I agree that the belt doesn't make you any better but achieving goals is something to be very proud of.
  18. I would wait until you were proficient enough with the weapons on hand before taking on something new. When you are very proficient enough with the above weapons then learn the sword.
  19. I've never owned a Kamakaze but I have owned Shureido. The Shureido gi was great. Very stiff like cardboard but it lasted a long long time
  20. When I first heard about Bulletproof Monk I thought it was going to be like Crouching Tiger. When I saw the previews and realized it was a comdey I was a bit dissappointed.
  21. If you are efficient enough with you legs you can be just as accurate with them as your hands. I can put my foot on a target just as easily as someone else can put their fist on it. It is all in how you train your legs.
  22. My friend Bao trained there for a few months. he said it was a life altering experience. Only problem was he lost his passport and couldn't return to this country for an extra 3 weeks. He was Asain so they didn't think he was a true U.S. citizen.
  23. By bouncing it will help you stay mobile. When your feet are firmly planted you will be more rooted and a bit more solid but it will slow you down. Everything is a compromise and you need to figure which works for you.
  24. You can usually get a year or more out of a high quality gi. KI makes a great gi that last a while.
