If anything, you'd think steroids would have been punished more harshly. That's so crazy! It should be like the olympics...if you get caught using a banned substance...you lose! End of story. Lose, and banned from competition. However, there are so many fight organizations out there now, that if one starts to ban its fighters, the others may take them in to gain some fans. It would have to be something that went across the board to all commissions. -
A Game of Thrones; Sansa This is one of my favorite chapters, I think. We see the stark comparisons between Arya and Sansa. Sansa is the proper lady, well bred and refined. Arya, is quite the opposite. Sansa is concerned with her stature; Arya is not. Arya seems very down-to-earth, and Sansa has her head in the clouds. We learn that Sansa is so connected to the romanticized stories that she heard as a child, that she actually believes them to be the way of the world. She speaks of them so much, that it almost makes you sick at times. Sansa and Arya are to spend the day riding with the Queen and Princess Myrcella in the Queen's wheelhouse. Sansa is excited about this, but Arya would rather hang out with the butcher's boy, Mycah. Sansa is afraid that Arya will ruin everything for her today, too. Upon returning from talking with Arya about what the days agenda is supposed to be, Sansa learns that 3 knights have arrived to see the King the rest of the way home. We meet Ser Berristan Selmy, The Bold, who is the head of the Kingsguard. We also meet King Robert's younger brother, Renly Baratheon, who is the Lord of Storm's End. Last of all, is Ser Ilyn Payne, the King's headsman, who had his tongue ripped out by the Mad King; he is an intimidating figure, and Sansa is physically frightened of him at first. The Queen tells Sansa that she must postpone their day together, and instead offers for Jofferey to spend the day with Sansa. Sansa is delighted, and they spend the day riding together (which she told him she loved to do, but told Arya earlier that she hated riding). They go riding, explore, eat and drink wine, and ride some more. They come upon two youngsters who are playing at swords, and Jofferey decides to let his true colors show. The two playing are Mycah and Arya. Jofferey decides to initmidate Mycah, and Arya's true colors show through. She attacks Jofferey with her stick, and when Jofferey comes at her, Nymeria attacks him. Arya finishes by tossing Joff's sword into the river, and Sansa has to send for help for Joff. Joff shows displeasure with Sansa at the end of it all, too.

Yeah, you bring up some good points. I think that for the most part, Theon is in for himself. However, one of his best qualities, I feel, is his shrewdness. When he does finally get back to his father, he is not looked at as Ironborn anymore; he spent too much time away from the sea. However, I thought that Theon was closer to Jon than he was to Robb; Theon and Jon kind of fell into a similar mold together.

That sounds like a good deal, ps1! It is kind of eerie, though.

A Game of Thrones; Catelyn Catelyn sits in the sickroom with Bran, who has yet to awaken. The meat of this chapter is an assassination attempt on Bran, the diversion for which was setting the library of Winterfell afire. When the assassin arrives at the room, he comments that no one was to be in the room, but Bran. Cat struggles with the assassin, and before the killer is able to do his job, Bran's direwolf arrives, and dispatches the killer. Afterwards, Cat is treated for her injuries. Her hands were cut very badly in the struggle with the knifer. She is given milk of the poppy, and finally sleeps, for 4 days. Upon awakening, Cat speaks with Luwin, Rodrick Cassel, Robb, and Theon Greyjoy, the ward of Eddard from the Iron Islands, and Cat states that she feels Bran was to be killed for something that he saw. She knows that Jaime Lannister was in the castle when the group went out hunting, and suspects him. She tells them of the message from her sister, Lysa, of the suspision of Lord Arryn's death at the hands of the Lannisters, which she thinks is linked. Cat decides that she will go to King's Landing, and find out what she can. What doesn't make sense to me is why Theon Greyjoy is trusted in such a way to be involved in this discussion. Theon refers to Eddard as a "second father" and also states that his family owes the Starks a great debt. None of this makes sense, but it becomes clearer later on, when we learn how Ned and Robert fought against Greyjoy's Rebellion.

Naaa....didn't you see the TKD episode? Duff gets KOed by TKD. So, just bring in the TKD guys! -
Different things motivate different people. Some like to watch movies, and get motivated that way. Some will watch fights, and then get motivated by that. One way to motivate yourself is to set some short term goals and some long term objectives. Make sure that the goals you set are measurable; something that you can record as improvement. It could be a number of kicks done in a minutes time, or the number of push-ups you can do, etc. Write them down, and look at them every day. Use several short-term goals to help you to achieve a broader long-term objective. Again, write them down, and keep them where you can see them everyday. This should help.

That doesn't make sense at all. There needs to be consitency across the board, no matter what the classification of drug. -

This was a very good book. When I picked it up, I expected a book full of the flashy kicks and techniques of Capoeira, and I got that, and so much more. Although it is not an extensive how-to book on the Art of Capoeira, it does give introductions to moves and sequences, but is very full of some of the history, philosophy, and roots of the art of Capoeira. The history was very interesting, and the philosophies behind the style is very interesting to learn about as well. It talks of the differences between the styles Regional and Angola, and where they came from, along with more recent styles and groups. Of particular interest (to me, anyways) was the appendix in the book, where the author elaborated on a meeting of Capoeira Mestres in masse that took place in 1984. Many discussion went on in that assembly, ranging from art and science being introduced in Capoeira, Capoeira abroad, and what is becoming "lost" in Capoeira. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the style, art, and philosphies of Capoeira. -
Ah, I see. Cool. Happy B-day to your brother!

We did some "Rambo drills," which were palm to palm reaction drills with weapons. We did gun vs. gun, gun vs. knife, and gun vs. unarmed. We used rubber band guns for our training session, and we really learned a lot about buying just a few seconds time to save yourself. We then did some technique analysis, breaking down and discussing what we learned in the drills. We finished up the session working on rear takedowns. Traditional TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:15. Class got started late tonight, but it was all black belts, so we did all of the forms. From Chon-Ji up to Yoo Sin hyung, 15 forms in all. So, I got a double-dose of forms work today, which was good. A brief stretch afterwards finished out the session. -
Hehe, I think you might have a good point there, Kez.

Yeah, and it needs to be curbed, really fast. That will be the worst PR enemy of the MMAs, not the "attitudes" that many claim the fighters have. -

I have seen some commercials on them, and they do look good. I think I may have to break down and by the DVDs of both this and The Human Weapon, just so I can have them all. -
Century sells different colored gis. Try their website. Just curious, why green?

Yeah, Kez, ours goses about the same way, too. Earn 1st dan, wait 1 and half years, test for 2nd; wait 2 and a half years, test for 3rd, etc.

It may not have much to do with fighting ability, but it is part of the rules, so it has to be followed. If you want to control performance enhancers, then you should control the illegal street drugs as well. That, and it helps to set an example. If it had been you or me testing positive for marijuana, we would be posting a bond at jail for it. -
Man, thats quite a journey, ps1. I think it sucks what the shihan did to you with the Karate training, especially after you gave him 20 students. That's real integrity there. Keep at it, though, and I am sure that an opportunity for your Shotokan training will roll around eventually. Remember, success is where preparation meets opportunity. So stay prepared.

Yeah, I have seen that one before. A good kick, but easy to block if you keep your hands up. -
what's in your black belt grading ?

In my organization, testing for 6th dan is the last physcial test. After that, it has more to do with organizational advancement, teaching, etc. -
Tornado Kick (aka Hurricane kick)
bushido_man96 replied to dano's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
You can also set the kick up by stepping forward first, to gain more momentum, and then beginning the kicking technique. Eventually, you will want to work away from this, but it can help in the early stages of learning. A friend of mine that was really into Olympic TKD had some really quick stutter-stepping footwork that he did for this kick as well. He kept his body lower to the ground, and didn't jump as much. It is much quicker that way, and is a great counter in sparring. -
I agree with Killer here. In my current TKD form, Yoo Sin, we do that movement, and I try to focus it as both elbow strikes to the front, and a punching motion over the shoulder. I don't notice any weakness in stance, and by focusing it as a punch and an elbow strike, I feel as though I put more power into the technique.
