You listen to Eastflat Bush projects? Just the beat makes me want to do MA. Those Taigo drums slap!
-
This is just me, but Hip-Hop really gets me into the mood at Dojo. Before i do a format, i'll listen to either some extremely Hyphy music or some raw east coast, maybe even Wu-Tang Clan. I also play african-latin drums and those can get me into a quick frenzy of MA. I try to play them like Taigo drums, too. Those will get me amped.

This is my personal way of meditating. Usually, I'll do a half-format to warm-up my muscles a bit. Then sit in Scieza with my palms together at my chest-level in a sort of prayer position. Then I take 20-second breaths (10 in, 10 out) and at the same time imagine a wave at a beach going in and out with my breath. The wave breaks at second one of inhale, it's at its peak at second 10 of inhale and then in starts to contract at second 1 of the exhale and then by second ten of the exhale, the wave returns to the ocean and I begin again. that's just me. Everyone is different. P.S. lordtariel i feel you. See, i live in Berkeley, California: land of the faux-hippies, ex-hippies and potheads. After a similar experience like yours i had in People's park. (Yes, the people's park) I no longer meditate in public parks. Fools will just run up and either make fun of me or try to cop weed.

I can understand where a lot of y'all are coming from but I have two questions. 1) What are the politics and drama that come from bringing a bf/gf into your dojo. I'm trying trying to get the love of my life to join my Dojo, but it's an uphill battle. 2) What about inter-school dating. I went by my former dojo and thought about getting at a couple female students there.

I agree most of you when I say: Why stop at Black belt? TKD is a great art and I respect it, but it's a great gateway MA. You'd find almost any other martial art pretty easy (stretch-wise). I think that you should take another MA rather than just restart. different styles complement each other really well. E.G. Thai boxing + TKD/ Kung/Bok Fu What i find a bit peculiar is how you can get a black belt in only 3 years. In my system, it's an average of ten. but thats Bok-Fu.

Muay Thai vs. Capoeira

If any of you live in the Bay area, you can go to either Amoeba or Rasputin and get it there. It's not the actual release and it only has the actual movies and its trailers, but it's good enough. I've had it since last winter. -

These two movies are really good, but there's one thing that messes them all up. Both "Legend of Drunken Master" and "Once Upon a time in China" have the white guy that know some type of fighting. It's really funny. P.S. have anyone of yall seen the Wu-Tang Clan sponsered MA films. They do a lot of remakes and stuff of old Shaw Bros. "Drunken Monkey" -
I would be honored, even if i was defeated. (cuz even by fighting with someone, you can learn a lot) If i was an very experienced black belt. I heard Jim Kelly has Bruce Lee skill now. What would you name a style that you created?

The few fights i've gotten into after learning martial arts were pretty quick. Not because i knocked them out with a strike, but my confidence scared them. It was two guys about my size trying to jack my bike. I didn't act the punk or act macho, I just told them that I knew how to defend myself. I think that if they saw any weakness, they would've attacked me. So, it wasn't knowing any strikes or kicks, but the confidence that comes from MA that protected me. The other time, a kid tried to jump me and I stuck a mid-knuckle strike in his solar plexus and he went down pretty quick.

I go so dummy with a Chinese broad sword. The one thing i don't like about is its range. Only a really skilled swords MA can defeat a spear fighter. Otherwise, the spear guy will scrape the sword guy.
-
I don't know what kind of broad sword this is, but I really liked that sword No Name had in "Hero." That was cool cuz it was wobbly, so you could slap a fool with the side of the blade.
-
Out of these, i would say: Chinese broad Sword or Spear The second is 9-sectional Chinese Whip. It looks really cool and you can front like it's a key-chain, then- SWISH!! peace to their eyes.

I fool around with my friends' Bo, Broad Swords, Sai, Nunchaku and Kali sticks and Spear even though i'm just an orange belt, but i want to truly pursue learning broad sword stuff.
