  1. If you show me your "fav combo" in the ring more than a couple times I'll put you to sleep because I'll see it coming. Relying on any one technique is not an effective way to fight. you constantly have to be working the body up, down, left side, right side, etc... Now granted, if a fighter, a stupid fighter is leaving their leg out and continually letting me punish it, then I'll focus on that technique, use what works. You can't plan on using any one technique before a fight. You really have to KNOW your opponent to do that. Playdoughmonkey Brown belt in Muay Thai
  2. The WKA (World Kickboxing Association) defines kickboxing as allowing leg kicks. This is the point I was making, there is no set definition.
  3. I was reading the last thread and thought i'd start another one because of something I read. one user pointed out that Muay Thai fighters have tougher shins... I train Muay Thai, I am a brown belt under Ajarn Mike Miles. My Ring Experiance has been under kickboxing rules. In the kickboxing bouts I have had they have allowed kicks to the inside and outside of the legs....thus I shin block. If we are talking a about a fight where leg kicks are not allowed, to me this is full contact karate. Not kickboxing. This is defined by the WKA. It's really all opinion, and I certainly don't mean to question anyones training, but to me a fight that doesn't allow leg kicks is full contact karate not kickboxing. How does everyone else train? With leg kicks or without? I have seen many fights where one fighter has obviously not trained with leg kicks but is forced to contend with them in the ring. I have seen many times where a fighter will beat down the leg getting the hands of the other fighter lower and lower and then dropping a shin on the guys head or neck, goodnight!
  4. Depends on wether the Muay Thai Fighter fought under kickboxing rules or not. If they fought under those rules often then I would put my money on the Muay Thai trained athlete everytime. Also, a kickboxers shins should be condtioned as well. If we are both defining kickboxing the same way...WKA rules allow kicks to the inside and outside of the leg. That being the case any gym fighting under those rules that isn't teaching their athletes to shin block is severly handycapped
  5. If you get big guys banging on them they'll be leaking in about 3 months. They don't take a lot of abuse. Someone suggested filling them with sand, thats a good idea.
  6. Lewis will win. Anyone remember his fight with David Tua???? Tua fights exactly the same as Tyson. They are almost the same size as well. Tyson is much more aggressive than Tua, but they still fight the same. Lewis will keep him at bay with his Jab and win the fight on points. Someone mentioned Lewis has no chin, thats BS! He got hit by a HARD punch he didn't see coming. Period. He has been on the mat twice, both time were by punches he didn't see coming. Lewis, 12 round decision!
  7. It was a good card, I felt Jason Fenton should have shown a little more Ring generalmanship, but it was still a good fight. Erins fight was like watching a little Nick RIng, complete domination of her opponent.
  8. Sounds like a good combo. But what are you going to do if I am hitting you with my jab and you're cowering? The combos you throw are only half the game. You have to be comfortable in a defensive position. In other words, you have to be ok with someone trying to knock your block off. You have to KNOW you can block what they throw!
  9. I went in a tourney after 5 months, came in third. Now, 2 years later I fight full contact Kickboxing and Love it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. If you think you can do it GO for it.
  10. If you kept your hands on the top of my head above my ears you would not have anything to hold on to. Below the ears squeezing your elbows together. pull your opponents head to your chest as you fire the knees in.
  11. Thaismai gloves rock, like they were made for your hand only. I wouls also recommend getting a steel cup. Shin pads....not much difference in any of them. Gloves are the most important. Talk to people that have the ones you're thinking of getting, ask if they are ripped inside or if they hold their form.
