  1. I didnt disagree with the advert being a scam I just pointed out that ninjutsu appears has 15 dans. Whether a 15th dan is excellent or not depends on who gave him that grade. IMO the advert looks a bit dodgy and looks like they are biggin' up their gym too much. But isn't that the whole point of advertising? It'd be a poor advert it it said "Average dojo, teaching average martial arts" even if it was true The wisest decision is just go down to a class as a spectator and check it out. Thats the only way
  2. Putting his foot on your back is quite demening dont u think? Thats the marines for you My teachers pretty hard but very relaxed at the same time, its a good mixture. He makes us work our balls off but makes us want too at the same time. If it helped you in the long run then thats good
  3. Yeah it has 15 dans. Did nobody click on the link I put?
  4. Yeah he is a really nice guy and an excellent martial artist. I can't believe he's 61. He's still really fast and strong. Dr Johnson at your dojo has an impressive resume. It seems to be very strict, with the 30 rules and all . Is it that strict? It sounds like the army . Our gym is very relaxed as you probably gathered that from the article. Cheers, Paul
  5. Hi, I have been studying Jun Fan Gung Fu and JKD concepts since October. I go twice a week and I have a filipino weapons class on saturdays. I enjoy it very much and am lookin to do more martial arts. I have the option of going to an extra couple of classes in the week at my JKD gym but the classes are so physically demanding that i'm not sure i'll be able to hack it. Instead I am thinking of taking up an internal style like Aikido and going to that twice a week as well as my other classes. I am interested in using the internal energy of the body, I also like the idea of being able to win a fight without harming the other person. I have read before that violence is the most destructive behavior possible to the fabric of space and time. Aikido translates as "The Way of Harmony". I am deeply interested in the spiritual side of martial arts. The higher levels of Kali-Silat that i learn in my JKD class is on the spiritual plane and I am very excited to learn this. My current JKD instructor is 3rd Generation under Bruce Lee and has been all over South East Asia studying martial arts, he is also a shaman. Even though he won't admit it. He tells me storys of seeing his spirit guides sitting next to him on the bus and in restaurants. He thought he was going insane. They taught him how to heal people with his energy. Similar to reiki but with more extraction. Our gyms website is http://www.jeet-kune-do.info I have heard that Aikido takes a long time to master but that is one thing i have got I have also heard that people training in Aikido cannot defend themselves in a real fight even after 2yrs training. I think my JKD class has that well and truly covered , so I am just left with time to study an internal art. Can anyone who studies Aikido tell me if it will suit my needs? Or are there other internal styles which might be better for me (Gung Fu possibly)?. I cant study Tai Chi as I there are no teachers around my area who teach it for self defense, just for health benefits. Thanks, Paul
  6. I think its pretty normal. Check this link out http://www.ninjutsu.co.uk/training/graderecognition.html Cheers
  7. Thanks for the replies everyone For those of you who have 4 or more formal classes a week. Are they physically demanding? Ncole you said you have 5 classes a week and then kickboxing and tae bo for cardio; dont you get the cardio in your shotokan classes? When I did shotokan I hardly ever broke a sweat, but I was young (11yr old). Just wondering if all classes are as knackering as mine Or are you guys just unbeliveble atheletes? As I said my JKD classes now leave everyone completely knackered even people who have been going for 15yrs. Cheers, Paul
  8. Yeah, I train in kali and silat. I love it too! The weapons classes are excellent. We do single stick, double stick, knife and knife & stick. Of course all the the techniques can then be done empty hand - which is why its so mint! I have some nice tiger burn rattan sticks. I'm in England in Manchester if you wanna check my place out its http://www.jeet-kune-do.info Cheers
  9. Hello, I currently train 3 times a week. The two lessons in the week are hard physically, leaving your t-shirt wet through. We mainly do silat, kali, boxing, thai boxing, wing chun, grappling and train the reverse punch alot. On saturday I have a weapons class where we do single stick, double stick and knife work, which is not physically demanding. In the week classes are held mon, tues, wed and thurs. I usually go mon and thurs to leave a 2 day gap in between coz sometimes my body aches after the monday session. However recently I have not been aching too much and i might try going 4 times a week including Saturdays. I have been training since october and I asked my teacher when I first started about going to every lesson! He said that would probably be overtraining. How many times do you guys/gals train a week? Cheers, Paul
