  1. I crack my knuckles lol Just one of those nervous things i guess. But the thing ive found best in preparing is to loosen up, breathe and place alot of faith in my instincts. Mind you, my number of losses greatly outnumbers my victories.
  2. Hi all. Just after some tips. In my club their is this speedy sort of character, the kind where his punches are quick, they never fully extend, but give the illusion that they scored. (I do non-contact karate by the way) When it comes to sparring him, ive been taking on the whole, dodge-and-kick routine, and thats helped to an extent. But unfortunately, as im getting smarter, so is he. Hes been using alot of feint techniques to draw my guard away from target areas. Any ideas? I just need help with the whole speed thing. Thanks in advance.
  3. Sounds alot like my problem. I do mountain bike riding as well as karate, so i have pretty solid legs. Ive been doing alot of sit ups and push ups, and theyre helping slowly but surely. I just need tips on how to speed up this process a bit.
  4. Hi all. What im about to ask isnt a 'got-to-do' thing of my style, just for personal gain i guess. Im tryin to find ways to harden my upper body with well defined but not overly big muscles. Just so its easier to take a few punches and all that. Any suggestions?
  5. Thanks for all your help. Ill definately check out those links Thanks again.
  6. Hi all. Just a question for those who live in rural Victoria (close to the NSW border). The karate style im currently practising focuses alot on Kata, but up to about Brown Bar (the marker we use between Blue Belt and Brown Belt) all the katas we practice are the pinan katas. Dont get me wrong, i enjoy kata more then any other aspect of my training, and i know repitition is good in the martial arts, but id like to expand my knowledge of different katas. So if anyone knows of any good schools in rural Victoria with a high emphasis on kata, could u please post details of the school. Thanks
  7. Just the whole deal with the black collar. Just disregard wat i sed bout it.
  8. We just wear the white gi, until brown belt, then its white gi and black pants, and after black belt the collar part of the gi is a different colour depending on the level of instructor. Makes it feel alot like taekwondo or somthing.
  9. Why not? Each movement is supposed to be used for literal fighting unless you consider kata just dancing? I may not know as much as you Tokkan, and i may never know as much as u, but for those who live in Australia, read the june 2006 issue of Blitz martial arts magazine. An article in it about Kata says that when the old Kata's were made they were purposely designed with faults built into them. So take a closer look at your kata's and think about what would happen in a fight if you changed "x" technique in such a way.
  10. Thanks everybody for your help. I really appreciate it
  11. Hey all, I've been a member for a while, but just stood on the side lines watching so to speak. Ive been doing karate for bout 17-18 months, and i just passed my green belt. When i looked at the techniques ill be graded on for my next belt, i saw Mawashi Geri Jodan or Roundhouse kick to the head. This is a part of my training that ive kind of neglected. I can do a Front kick to the head, same with Side and Hook kicks, but Roundhouse just, well yeah, im running into a bit of trouble with trying to get it to the right height. Anyways, could someone give me some advice or anything regarding how i can improve my flexibility and strength for Roundhouse kick to the head? Thanks
