White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. An X block? When I'm from, the double crossing upper block is known as a jackal block. But I can see why u call it an X Block though. lol
  2. Have you ever considered doin both styles?
  3. I was 18 when I started training in Karate and I wish that I had started at the age of the kids in my class (around 8-10). You can also train, whilst still enjoying a normal lifestyle, like another post said, girlfriends, parties, family, etc. Just make martial arts a part of your life.
  4. has anybody got any songs that they use for motivation when they train? I am really into my training and really enjoy doing it, but is there any song(s) that you reckon that just want to make u train that little bit harder. A classic that I can think of is Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. What do u reckon?
  5. i think this kid did what he had to do. i don't go out looking for fights, but you cannot let "bigger" kids go around talking down on you and picking on you. if someone starts u finish.
  6. Don't know what you are going through because I have never broken a bone, but the time will probably come I would probably reconsider, the tournament and just take some time out and go watch it instead. Just imagine if you get kicked or punched in that rib, you might be out for even longer. But rest it and learn from it!
  7. I usually run about 4-5 times a week for about 5-7kms. Maybe 3-4 Miles, I think. When doing martial arts training 3 times a week, we usually jog for about half an hour, doing some stretching exersises, then going into kicking, punching, sparring, etc. Anyway, I was wondering if it is better to preform stretching exercises before or aftering finishing a half hour jog. Jog - Stretch - Train or maybe Stretch - Jog - Stretch -Train - Stretch or Stretch - Run - Train anybody have any ideas?

    Kata?

I have been in karate for about 14 months now and the way in which we do katas in the style that I do is sort of like shaddow fighting but with deeper meaning. So, you might be fighting one or multiple opponents, with kicks, puches and blocking techniques, but at the same time, focusing on the techniques that you are doing. In my understanding, some katas are like this, while others are movements that don't resemble fighting but rather moving your body in an artistic way. No, not like dancing...ok in some ways maybe it is, but a martial artistic way, if that makes any sense.
  9. I would ask your instructor and see what he thinks about the situation. Personally, I would not wash my belt, as it is a sign of all the training I have done. Gis are another story, though.
  10. I haven't yet reached the leavel of Black Belt. I am currently, Yellow Belt, 1st Tip, which is 8th Kyu in my style and that Yellow Belt is a sign of the training and experience I have gained. I think that would go for a person with a Black Belt as well.
