setboy replied to wagnerk's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
from what i can tell all of them (Isshin-ryu, Ishin-ryu and Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu) are all different Isshin-ryu Isshin-ryu is from Okinawan and was founded by Shimabuku Tatsuo on 15 January, 1956. and is made up of Shorin-ryu karate Goju-ryu karate, and Kobudo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isshin_Ryu Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu was founded in January 1990 by its Chief Instructor, Shodai Soke Kevin Pell, Hanshi, 8th Dan. and is made up of Ju-Jitsu, Shorinji-Kempo, Judo, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Iaido and Kyokushinkai Karate. http://www.ishinryu.com/club_history.shtml and Ishinryu karate finds its roots in a small sub-urban town of Dagenham on the outskirts of London. It was here that David "Ticky" Donovan 7th Dan OBE started his first club, combining his acquired knowledge from Kyokushinkai, Wado-ryu and Shotokan. http://www.upminster.ishinryu.btinternet.co.uk/origins.html -

when you say "low kicks", you mean we don't kick to the head a lot and go to the body 99% of the time, right? QFT the politics really suck. that being said, i still really love Isshinryu
-
no. but my school does not make you break boards for testing

head instructer in Isshinryu is a 7th degree, Shichi Dan. She is Ohio's highest ranking IWKA certified female black belt. other instructer at my dojo at this time Yon Dan (4th degree black belt) San Dan (3rd degree black belt) Ni Dan (2nd degree black belt) and 1 sho dan (not in including myself) over the years i have work with 3-5 other sho dans and one other ni dan
-
In my dojo we keep the same black belt you test for at sho dan. my head Sensei is a Shichi Dan and still has a black belt.

look around at all the dojos/schools near you. see if you can watch a class. some schools even let you try a class for free (or a small fee) without joining up. Good luck -
