indeed Katas are a great workout - I tried all the Heian Katas last night (to Godan) whilst wearing my heartrate monitor, on my running machine my heart rates sticks at around 155bpm (ater 5mins or so) Kata also raised my heart rate to that and slightly above for a short period Neil

Hi Dont worry this isnt my club that doing this - I simply pay weekly there, but there is a club in my area that insists student sign up for 12 months at a time and pay training fees monthly by direct debit. They say its all about commitment to the club and helps people get through the tough times when they usually would have quit. Whats your views on these setups? thanks

I'm sure this has been raised before, but can't seem to find anything on it - so - have you ever had to use your martial arts training / skills to protect /defend yourself and what was the result? Did your martial art work as expected, or did it fail miserably? I'm at 5th Kyu in Shotokan Karate, and never had to call upon it, and hope I never will. Neil

yes I did. Shotokan katas were fairly similar to the Wado katas, so didnt take long to remember them. Stances of Shotokan are lower, so that was the hardest part of going back

Hi all my first post here, stumbled across this website purely by chance, and what a wealth of information and opinions Anyway, at 33 I've recently gone back to Karate after 11 yrs off, and enjoying it more now than I remember. Trained in Seike Juku (based on Wado I believe) before, arriving at 5kyu, and after quite some work managed to start in Shotokan at the same level. Anyway, my reason for the post - can anyone recommend a decent website to download karate kumite / tournament videos? I've had a search on google/yahoo but not much of any quality there. Thanks Neil T
