My rank....white belt...but i got my first yellow stripe tonight (in Judo) I always thought martial arts were kind of funny, so i just started liek 4 months ago...(something just said to give them a try) I really look forawrd to moving up, but i always look back to the previous month and say to myself, man i've learned alot in the past 3-4 weeks...so really learning is what ilike best, but the rank just pushes me harder. I hope to test for my next yellow stripe in about 2 maybe three weeks..(is that too soon?)

im pretty much looking for the first two, a year down the road (or two) once i get back from boot and all my training (which none of you probbaly even knew about this, but i'll be back next january) but once i get back and settle down about a year after im going to start some form of karate...hey im young! but i am also checking out all these other forms of MA that you guys are giving me, but kansas has little to offer ps: i leave for boot june 11

well i could only attend twice a week therefore 8 times a month and its only an hour long. I found another school for $70 a month...and im going to ask if possibly we could work a deal since i could only attend 2 of the four lessons per week. This would help me out since i also have to pay for school now...So hopefully it will all work out. If anyone has any other styles or ideas feel free to post. thanks for all your help

how much should a school cost? I called one school and thewy were asking $90 a month...is that too much?

what should i look for in a GOOD TKD dojo? any ideas?

well I am currently doing Judo and am having some success so far and i plan on sticking with that for awhile. The dojo i go to also has Bushodokan Karate. (spelling), so i plan on taking that later on down the road. (in about a year or so), but was wondering if it would be a good idea to try another martial art mainly just for "kicks"....kicks as in kicking, not "just for the heck of it" (notice the 2 dif meanings in kicks...lol)

Sorry i posted this in the wrong forum last time, but what is the best martial art to learn a good variety of kicks? I want to learn as many as possible...well not too many. But what ma has alot/ a variety?

Ankle sprains

i actually know what i was doing wrong, i wasn't turning my foot on my roudhouse. And i wasn't doing this because the guy i was sparring with was going EXCESSIVELY hard. I know, this isn't good either, but he left with the bloody nose and mouth, not me.... And because i wasn't turning i sort of sprained my foot/ankle. We train with shoes because it is Krav Maga and it is supoise to be realistic stuff. (not saying other forms aren't) But next time i won't be scared and i won't forget technique etc, I was just wondering if taping my ankles would be acceptable. -
Would it be ok to wrap my ankles before kickboxing? I find in the middle of sparring i sometimes get a bad kick in and it seems to really mess my ankle/foot up. Have you guys heard of people taping there ankles? (ps: im not sure what you guys practice, but we actually where shoes so not sure whether or not that will make a difference in your answers) Thanks

yea thanks for the advice everyone. but i'll feel you in with a little bit of background, the kid moved onto my block about 3 years ago from "atlanta". He's 19 and still a freshman in highschool. so most likely this would not happen in public. It would happen on my block. But no im not "planning" this, in fact i havent seen him since...(maybe he got to come home for thanksgiving from whatever drug rehab etc school he was at) but yea im just glad no one has flamed my thread. The only reason I am thinking kicks is im not good at closing gaps right away. Only been sparring for about a month and a half. and YES i know a fight and sparring are TOTALLY different, but he is about 3 inches taller than me and 60lbs heavier (mostly fat) so i thought if i could get a nice round kick to ribs or groing kick that would be a good way to start it off. This post might turn into a failure but at least i got advice on shoes. In fact this post is a failure, because fighting is a failure...but hey still comment

well im not PLANNING on it, never have nor will, but im pulling out of my driveway and this kid who always tried to start fights with, well he is back from JAIL. so im thinking well maybe i should stand up to him this time if he tries to start a fight. What do you guys think?

oh ya I totally agree. And thats what im workin on. (Only being doing this stuff for like 3 months so i have alot to improve on) but how about steel toed shoes? Lighter and i planned on working on my kicks with them to gain a bit more speed and power. It works, ever worked the heavy bag with gloves and taken them off? Feels alot faster. So tell me what you think about steel toed shoes. (not boots)

If you had to get steel toe boots or shoes which would you get? And why? Im asking cause i thought about getting some in case i ever needed to defend myself. I know there is alot more effectiove options, but i just realized if i ever wanted any kind of kick to affect some one, it was time to trade in my regular tennis shoes for something a little harder. Im thinking steel toe shoes. Cause wouldn't boots look wierd with shorts?

i had a pair of those a longggg time ago. like 2 years ago. i can't really remember how well they worked for me tho but i know a guy in one of my self defense classes uses them and says he likes them better than using hand wraps.... (in this class we don't use gloves just wraps) but i know when i used them i felt like they ddint give me much support on my wrist...

yea i think with a little more experience i'll do better. its just kind of frustrating. thanks for all the tips. here's my chechlist to do better for next week. 1. move and stay on my toes 2. don't play defense the whole time 3. relax 4. hands up - chin down 5. keep my head as well as my body moving. i think 4 and 5 will help alot as well as #1.....i know for a fact i wasn't doing 1 or 5 and i know i was mainly playing defense....
