Well my problem is effectiveness. If I had no other option left and I had to fight 2 maybe 3 guys how does tai chi help. Tai chi's biggest downfall is there is no ground fighting and its a fact that 99% of all fights end up on the ground. At least that is what I'm told. If someone could convince me of the effectiveness then tomorrow I would enrol for the course and take lessons from master Xing(I cant spell his name).

I posted yesterday that I have a Chen style Tai Chi school about five minutes from my school. But I also found a Eagle claw school about 45 mins from my house. I cant make up my mind which school to go to. Tai chi sounds good but its slow movements makes me wonder how effective it really is. Eagle Claw is a Shaolin style and its evertything in a modern martial art. How would the softness of Tai chi Master fair against the deadly grapples of Eagle Claw kung fu master?

I am fairly new to this whole martial arts scene? I have been reading a lot and have decided go with chinese martial arts because to me they go really deep and in detail in and are more scientific. This isn't knocking martial arts. its just a choice and kind of convient because the nearest martial arts studio is 10 mins walk and they teach chinese fighting. Anyway I have read up on chinese gung fu and founf there are two types of arts hard and soft. Hard meaning muscular training and uses hard blocks and offensive. Then there is the soft martial arts that use softer, less muscle and strength and use yielding and is very defensive. Any way the school I went to only teach a stlye know as chern (or Chen) and yang Tai chi. At first I thought this is no use because it looked pretty slow and boring. I was looking for some real northern shaolin stuff. I asked the sifu how on earth does this compare to the all superior shaolin kung fu( I mean if I did this slow stuff in front of kung fu master i expect him to knock me to next thursday). He says it may take time but a good Tai chi master can take on a shaolin kung fu martial artist, I naturally thought he was on crack. I smiled and said I'll think about joining later. I have searched everywhere not a single UFC uses tai chi chuan as a style. I has no real tai chi stories. Does anyone know about this stuff. I need to let the gut before wednesday next week. thanks

Bottled up anger and Martial arts???

I am told by many people studing martial arts never to attack in anger anyway. because it blocks supposed chi or ki channels thereby making your attack not as effective as when your chi or ki is flowing. It can also disrupt targeting. Its abit like star wars and the force. This is what I'm told by a karate experience anyway. It could be be lies -

thanks. CAn you tell me abit about anger and martial arts. does anger make you stronger or weak? -
Hi all, I am currently considering getting involved in martial arts and the art of fighting. The thing is I'm someone who has a very high tolerence for people (almost to the extent that my parents think I'm too soft) and I can bottle up alot of stuff but lately I feel like one day I'll just blow up. Can martial arts help me with this? What style of martial arts would be the best to choose? I hear that chinese martial arts is very deep and scientific, thinking of every aspect, but I also hear japanese martial arts is good as well. Ninjitsu school is one of them. Any help will greatly be appreciated
