White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Heavy bag work is a must. Use all your techniques. Use a timer to work on stamina.
  2. Roak , I had the same problem for about the first three years of training. Granted I began at 41. I have found that a simple rope amd pully works grate. Hang the pulley from the celling put the put the rope through it and stretch. Hope this helps you

    Broken Hand

wrap your hands with hand wraps. It will help you get your strengh back.
  4. Good way to toughen your fists. Also improves focus. I have limited space. But I didn't need much with the the one I use. Its 11in x 6in x 2In it is lighty padded so it leaves some skin. It has slots cut into it so it does give a little. It was recommended to me guy Kiyota Co. Baltimore.Md. Mount it on something solid. And make sure you don't have pictures on the other side. Start of with light focus punches. After just a couple of months you will fill a big difference. Punch on.
  5. 46 and and filling good. Training for Five year now.
  6. I use a wall mounted version in the garage. It has slices in it to alow for some rebound. It will make your hands tough and your punch powerful. But don't put it on ther same wall with your favorite pictures.
  7. If you want to lose 40lbs fast you need Atkins. It works fast. Tested it my self.
  8. Lots of good ideas out there I like to use a timer after a little warm up set it for 2 min then 3 then 4 ,5 then just go util you run out of steam. It gives you a accurate gauge of your stamina. O ya rest inbetween. I like to let the bag swing so i can circle it. Don't forget the AC DC

    Horse Stance.

Hi everybody, This is a great subject. I'll keep it short pizza. I was told by Shorin ryu Master Rubbo from Y town Oh. in the 70s that the horse stance was used to develop your legs into powerful springs. enabling you to generate a fast and powerful punch. I saw him spring forward at incredable speed. I train with that in mind.
  10. Angus, Leg checks very efective,Takes good timing. It is strange that it is not taught in Karate,

    Shorin Ryu

    Just one big happy family.
  12. Thanks Bud, It does help when you eat and sleep it. And thanks to a friend who worked with me at home. Gojo Ryu Karate is a populer style. Are you from the east or west coast?
  13. Hi fellow artists, Just had to chime in on this. I trained with a tai fighter in my garage for a while. It symulated a ring, no where to run. Changing my snap to a front push kick was hard. The other kick he tought me was the low round using a reverse twisting motion. Upper body going in the opposite direction of the the lower. Try grabing your sparing partner behind the head and pulling it down for a Knee strike with there consent and see what it fills like. Stance is more like a boxer. see yu

    Shorin Ryu

Just to clerify Shorin ryu is Okinawan and Shotogan is Japanese. I have read the book The Essence oF book and the only Karate Men Shoshin Nagamine credits for his trianing are Arakichi Arakaki, Chotoku Kyan and Choki Motobu. Shotogan Karate is based on Shorinryu. Gichin Funakoshi has been credited for the first book Karate Do Kyohan. Many Karate Men that lift Okinawa Renamed there styles.
  15. I have been to a couple of point tournaments won some lost some. Had some battles with some really big men. The punches were very hard and had it not been for conditioning. I would have been hurt. Been side kicked clean out of the ring. I found nothing soft about it. Its harder to keep them kicks above the waist then to through low rounds to the legs. Although they are very effective they have there place.
