  1. shoalinsun,

check arizona shaolin kempo acadmey south east corner of gilbert and university. Head instructor Jerry shaw, they have guests instructors there alot from diffrent disciplines.

He's from the fred villari system pretty much simular stuff and he has a good program. those fee's in USSD are expensive I stopped by a couple of there schools in chander/tempe area I wasn't impressed with the quality of teaching to be honest.

    Just my opinion

  2. No kidding I don't unerstand Chinese at all. i will have to wait for my roomate to come back next week he can translate for me. He's from Hong Kong.

MMA is getting very popular around the world. Its getting a good following in Korea alot of the events that are PPV in the states are on the local Korean cable networks out there. They have there own shows and are big into it. In japan PrideFC is played alot in bars and gets a good following of fans. Alot of fighters are celebrity's out there.

It is even Growing pretty good in the philippines as well.

  3. true not all soliders are warriors. defintion of a warrior is to engage the enemy some soliders are to afraid to do that.

but thats why we have combatives training and other types of training to develop that mind set. To engage the enemy. To have courage to engage the enemy even though we are afraid.

    God Bless the troops!

    Hooah!

  4. parkerlineage,

I see your point also with the rotation.

I might add both ideas make the technique work. On almost every technique or move what makes the move work alot of the times is application of weight. thats usually done by rotation, and also moving the weight down or up depending on what your doing.

when you watch ed parkers video's of him doing the moves especially on partner punching him hard thats where you see him having to apply the weight as I was talking about.

I like your ideas. I see by your name you did kungfu, karate, and jiu-jitsu as well. Did you do each one seperate or all of them combined in one art. I know som ellecitic arts combine them. Ie (shaolin Kempo Karate)

  5. what?! How can you not. On the blocks accept for the up ward one. You got the drop of the weight putting the weight on to the block.

You step back your knee's been and your weight drops putting wait on the block.

  6. try to find the one's nearest to you and have best prices and instruction. get one were youfeel comfortable. If the school is far it can kill motivation to travel out that far back and forth day in day out for consistant training. So location is important. Unless your so into it you just want to find the best school for you. I will wrtie down more names and address? Is kenpo the only art you want to do or is there others your looking for.

    Have you studied before?

  7. Its funny just drilling, and drilling some more and drilling some more. working each time to make the move better. alot of peoeple like to theroize though.

Every one has those guys no mater what art. where they like to talk more then practice. It can be even talking about the moves but they talk, talk, talk and waste theirs and there training partners time when they don't spend enough time driling.

Don't get me wrong discussing the techniques is good for learning but if they do it to much then all they got is intangible ideas.

  8. I can't tell you the perfect art but if you find one then I will find the flaw.

How ever I can tell you the perfect, hidden, secret to the martial arts.

    You ready?..........Its called.................

    PRACTICE!

Yep thats right thats the most over looked and best kept secret to the martial arts consistant, quality practice thats the key.

seems simple huh? It is, but so many people over look it.

  9. elbows and knees has just ko'ed the correct.

People say they can do this or that but in application its diffrent. I met martial artist who SOUNDED like they knew what they were talking about it. I had high hopes of working out with them. Then when I did those expectations of them didn't match there skill level because they couldn't in application apply the theory's they proclaimed.

Yeah common sense a knife hand to the throat will be bad news for the person if it lands with force but actually doing that or getting there is a diffrent story.

Don't get me wrong I don't suggest going full contact with a knife hand to the throat but either applying it full contact to the chest so it wouldn't hurt the opponent as bad or controlling it so you don't stirkethe throat but inch or two in front of it and the other person defends or resits it.

You can do eye gouges also and have the opponent were some type of saftey googles.

Either way it goes back to this thread is about. Training methods. turning theory into application is the point of it. as apposed to having blind faith in theory with out supporting evidence to justify it.

  10. 2 of the people I know that are really good is Jerry Shaw on s.e. cornor of gilbert and university in mesa. 480-649-8225.

Or mike elstnon. which again you would have to getahold of jerry to find out about Mike. they are both very good as far as shaolin Kempo goes. I been to 2 USSD schools up in tempe and chandler.

IF you want ed parker kenpo a good instructor I now but he teaches at out of his garage. He also teaches Kenpo program for some charter school in Mesa. called Heritage academy. I think its all center street off of main. Jon Duke is the instructors name. I seen other instructors for ed parker in az. Jon IMO is one by far knows more of the technical Knowledge.

If you aren't experienced to much in Martial arts. best I can tell you is to go into the yellow pages under martial arts and try diffrent schools out. Most of them have some introductory lessons or even free one time class particpation. Just ask questions and see what place you like the best. alot of things factor in choosing a school

sytyle you like. Your comfortablity in the instructor and other students. commute (how far away the school is from you) to the school. Price, knowlege base of the instructor and how well you feel your learning. Your own personal goals of why you are taking up the martial arts and how that school and instructor will help you reach those. Plus many other factors.

Lim is a pretty solid Hawiian kenpo instructor as well. Not sure of any schools in awatukee.

  11. Not only schools but perception and predjudice against styles. Taekwondo for example and I have said stuff about them in the past but I know some taekwondo guys that have some powerful kicks and are pretty good sparrers. That come out of the so called "mcdojo's." I watched this one taekwondo class that was more tradiational then tournament flashy a few times. I watched the students perform forms as the instrutor lead them. they had good stances blocks that looked just the same as some good traditional okinawan and Japense style karate guys.

  12. Yeah did any one notice the death touch he put on the reporter and the bjj guys. There in trouble now! in about oh lets say between 60 to 80 years from now. they are going to die because of it. lol!

sam, I know what you mean. Not a great percetage to do. I love how he does the Kiai and throws his arms out when does the touchless KO. I was thinking this guy watches to much dragon ball. I was waiting for him to say "Kamahamaha"

  13. What type of Kenpo/Kempo are you looking for?

chinese kenpo, shaolin Kempo, ed parker Kenpo and may other types of kenpo/kempo?

I know a few schools and instructors out there.

  14. Master jules, I have met Dillman also at a seminar and been to a couple of his students seminars.

I have seen the KO's haven't experieced them. accept dillman palming me jaw line so I felt dizzy after that.

That stuff would be interesting to learn same as if some one wanted to learn breaking. All fine and dandy but not something I feel confident to use in a fight.
